Laughed Out Loud

When I was a kid, there was this thing we called "Hospital Hill." It was a little hill on the side of the local hospital. It was steep and perfect for sledding after a snow storm hit.

At the base of the hill was a long stretch and then a road.

As kids, our goal was to sled through the stretch and cross the road on our sleds, just right in front of the cars...to scare them.

Yes. We were nuts. But it was plenty of fun.

And no one stopped us. Not the parents, not the police, not the hospital staff. Everyone thought it was just fun.

Well, when I was a kid (1950s, Cleveland Ohio area), one of the fathers would let us tie up to the back of his car with us on our sleds, at night. There must have been up to a dozen kids in the line! The father would drive us around the neighborhood swinging back and forth on the ice-covered streets. Those closer to the car would of course inhale all of the exhaust fumes; those of us near the back of the line would gyrate like crazy! I assume the guy was driving slowly but at the time it seemed very fast. Fun times!!!
