Laundromat at apartment building

When my washing machine decided to give up the ghost, I had a load of wringing wet, soapy laundry. Wondering what to do and never having been to a laundromat, I looked online for one locally. The disadvantage of living in a one-gas station town - no services! I remembered that the apartment building across the back street from me had a small, coin-op laundromat, so I went there as an emergency.

I hadn't been in there 30 seconds when two women entered and questioned my being there and asked if I lived there and if I didn't did I have permission from the owner to use the facilities. I explained that my washing machine was broken and it was an emergency. This did not go over well. One responded that the laundry was for the tenants use ONLY.

Now I question - do apartment building landlords have people that just sit and watch people coming and going? I can't understand their hostile and defensive attitude. I can't see what difference it made to these "ladies" as long as I'm putting money in the machines.

I think you need to check out " I have permission from the owner to use the facilities." Are you sure he is the owner , if so talk to him first.

They had a point I guess, but the best thing they could have done was to help you finish and fold the laundry! What happened to human kindness?

Hiss & Boo- to those two.

Agree with RadishRose. I can understand the owner/super not wanting people wandering in off the street to do their laundry, but I would also think that doing a favor for the building across the street would be good business-wise.

As for the self-appointed "guardians" of the laundry room, well, sometimes people just have too much time on their hands and will snatch any opportunity to feel important.

I am sorry if you were treated badly...that's not right... but I wish you would have gotten the name of the person who gave you permission to use that apartment's laundry room.
I can understand why they would question and wonder. I would do the same if some strangers came in and tried to use our bldg.'s laundry. I am just so sorry that you didn't have access to a public Laundromat...I hope you will be able to get a new washmachine soon!! Good luck to you.

Typical territorialism.

"This is ours & you can't use it!!!!"

Even if you were the only one who'd been in there all day long.

I would've gone back in there later that night & shot some Liquid Nails into the coin slots on every machine in the place.

Not really, but it's fun to imagine that I would've. ;)
