Lawn Guy Ruined My Trimmer

One of those math problems.

Hire someone to cut grass @$65.00 probably 10 times the lawn will need cutting per growing season $650.00

Buy self propelled mower listed at Lowes for $599.00 & free and delivery & have a useable mower for a minimum of the next several years.

What's the best option?

Money is meant to be a tool. Our gardener keeps our landscaping beautiful. Could I do it myself? Of course. Do I want to buy, store, service and haul out the equipment each week, devoting several hours to the various tasks? Nope. The $150/month I pay Raul is well worth the price, plus it helps keep him employed and his family fed.

The timeless wisdom of Dolly Levi (Hello, Dolly): "Money, pardon the expression, is like manure. It's not worth a thing unless it's spread around, encouraging young things to grow."

As they say, shrouds have no pockets.

Does how fast the mower goes over the grass impact on how well it cuts? Maybe this guy's problem is that he goes too fast. My neighbor has about the same sized lot as I do, but it takes him nearly an hour. My guy's done in 20 minutes including trimming and blowing. I saw him pass a window and he was just a blur.

It makes no difference on MY grass with My lawnmower.. I mow my lawns fast.. If I didn't my back wouldn't stand up to hours mowing or my patience .. My lawns even if I say it myself are the neatest around here... whether it depends on the type of grass or even mower you have is open to debate, but not for me..even with mowers in the past of a different make

I make Jack Benny look like a spendthrift. I've made frugality into an art form.
I think it can be taken too far. My mother could be very cheap and she made it into harassing others in the household and sometimes going without. Though we always had food. Looking back, it was foolish.

The thinner and more sparse the lawn is the faster one can mow, and the harder it is to keep from wandering because the line btwn the cut and uncut is not distinct.

I don't get it. Is that what you want? To be cheap w/yourself so a charity gets more? Is that a virtue? Maybe I'm not understanding that simple sentence.
I was wondering the same thing. If you had children or beloved nieces/nephews whose lives would be much improved by generous inheritances, I could kind of see it (though being generous with them while we're still alive is much more rewarding).

But charities? Sorry, but that doesn't make sense to me.

The more I have, the more I leave. I have my will constructed so many animal care facilities and the church get it. No relatives who, when I've asked for help, have turned a deaf ear.
Are you saying along with a house full of items no one wants that you try to sell at yard sales you hoard money?

Maybe take some of that "more" you have & buy a trimmer.

That sounds "generous", but denying yourself does Not improve your retirement years. With regard to a Will, if you have no relatives. etc., you might want to consider contacting an attorney, and setting up a Trust. A Will set up like you say, could leave your estate in probate...which would bleed off a huge amount to the State and Courts, and delay everything for months.

Wise advice, Don. Glad you noticed that.

The more you leave? Make the charities happy and donate it now. It's not like you're going to enjoy any of it yourself. Jussayin'
Or the CEO of the charities and the board members.. more like...

Better charities are local charities.. Animal shelters, where they might need donations of equipment.. .now, not when there's no control over whose pocket the money is going into... what about local charities for sick and dying children... ?.. these are the places who are very often desperate for equipment .. and you could give that to them now!!
