Lawn Guy Ruined My Trimmer

You mean about getting my lawn mowed? Forget that! I contacted my county's SS departmet a few years ago asking if they could recommend a maintenance contractor that would work for a reduced rate for seniors. They said liability prevented them from doing that. I guess that's also why the MOW drivers aren't insured. I bent the wheel on my car when I hit a tree that had blown over in the road just around a curve when I was delivering meals. They wouldn't even pay for the $10 bent tire rim!

I could see a business giving discounts to low income seniors but I read recently that baby boomers include many affluent seniors so it wouldn’t make sense to do it as a whole. Especially given that many are small businesses that are providing services so probably don’t have a huge profit margin.

I'm sticking with my little gas powered mower until it dies. Then I'll get another little gas powered mower. Right now all I need is a new spark plug. Fiiive dollar. I mow my grass low. Don't have to mow again two weeks.

One thing that concerns me is, technology is changing so fast. If you buy a battery powered mower now, will you be able to find replacement batteries in 5 years? If you can, how much will they cost? They do have a useable lifetime. If you need other parts, will they be available?
This could turn into a rant, as I have experienced many examples. I'll be quiet now.

Amen. Everybody and his brother asks small businesses for discounts and donations. It's exhausting for small business owners.

Providing discounts for some means raising prices across the board.

Keep your lawn service and buy a gas lawn mower. That way, if you see a spot not to your liking, you can mow it without having to do the whole lawn. For instance I don't care what the lawn looks like at the back of my house because I rarely see it. However, the front and side lawn are right there in my view.

Analysis paralysis again - keep the lawn service or buy a gas or electric mower.
there's no question in my mind that you should buy a lightweight Cordless Electric mower.... (battery)... Petrol( Gas) mowers are heavy....

If you buy a cordless mower now you will get several years of good use out of it..before you will need to employ someone.. , so therefore a lot of money saved.. and the mower will repay itself in the first couple of months

This, except that I’d also be willing to pay a kid to use it sometimes if the weather is too hot. You can always sell it later, if you decide you need a full service plan.

I bought a 20" Poulan push mower for about $169 total couple years before my husband died. Told him and the kids to keep their hands off. I used it today to mow. It's nice and light and still starts on the first pull. It's over 10 years old now.
