Left hand or Right hand?

For some strange reason Lee's TP thread yesterday brought to mind the question......

The Left hand or Right hand...which hand is the business hand when using TP?

The only answer I have ever heard is that the left hand is the business hand. The reason being, is that the age old custom of a handshake greeting most generally uses the right hand...leaving the left hand free to take care of 'other' obligations, and therefore is the business hand.

Maybe this is the answer also, should anyone question, how did the term "taking care of business" originate in regard to using a toilet.

Now while you all contemplate this...please excuse me...I've got to go take care of business 😀

Darn...I am all mixed up...I was a 'leftie' and still am most of the time. You see way back in Convent days, the Nuns deemed that it was evil to write with the left hand and I got many ruler slaps until I smartened up...but I tell you nobody but nobody is going to tell me which hand to use today doing things...leftie all the way. So there!

So being left handed was unacceptable? That's just not right.
Ignore convention, left handers are chosen. Jesus must have been left handed, that's why he sits on God's right hand.

There were a lot of things on the list at the Convent that were considered sins. I would come home in tears at times but my Dad, a Military man took care of things as he went to pay a visit to the dear nuns and scared the.....out of them! He was a big man with a big voice! No problem after that.

Same here about being hit. Regular public school but the teach hit me with a ruler everytime I used my left hand. Drew blood!
First marriage: Grooms Grandmother started screaming at the table when she saw me eatwith my left hand!
Hahahaha!

ROFLMAO!

I think the more important issue at stake is, what form of protection does one ensure their chosen hand is lined with ahead of taking care of business, to ensure ones fab-5 don't break on through to the other side. :giggle:

I can't thank you enough Marg for your "fab-5" post...I don't recall the last time I enjoyed such a hardy laugh, you scored a definite 10...Thank You again 😄

Sorry the post got sidetracked. That makes me sad but I'm not sour grapes about it. I'm sure I have unintentionally caused it before myself.

I love Aunt Bea's cartoon too. 😀

You're welcome, Hapi.

You're a great addition to the forum. :)

I do almost everything with my right hand including wiping my Butt. :)
My post was a rather tongue in cheek post as it only contained one fact...that custom did dictate shaking hands with the right hand and it was so for sanitary reasons. After I read that fact I tried to envision what people did prior to the invention of TP in 1857. I would rather think that people back in their days worried less about it than we do about TP today. Now days, many of us are close to being ocd with washing our hands...so really...does it make any difference right or left?

Thank you all for your participation :)

Please excuse me now as I need to go back to my cave before I overstay my welcome. ☺️

Depends on where I lived. In one place the TP was on the right side, on another it was on the left wall. You grab with the hand that ?is closest to the TP and take what you need with the other hand.

Oh no, this begs another question....how many squares do you use?

Which beings up another question....should it be dispensed over the top or under the roll?

Years ago I had a cat and learned that it was best to go under the roll.
