"Let's put our senior citizens in jail and the criminals in nursing homes.

This way, the seniors would have access to showers, hobbies and walks. They'd receive free prescriptions, dental and medical treatment, wheel chairs and they'd receive money instead of paying it out.

They would have constant video monitoring so they could be helped instantly if they fell or needed assistance.

Bedding would be washed twice a week and all clothing would be ironed and returned to them.

A guard would check on them every 20 minutes and bring their meals and snacks to their cells. They would have family visits in a suite built for that purpose.

They would have access to a library, weight room, spiritual counseling, pool and education. Simple clothing, shoes, slippers, P.J.'s and legal aid would be free on request.

Private secure rooms for all with an exercise outdoor yard with gardens. Each senior could have a PC, TV, radio and daily phone calls. There would be a board of directors to hear complaints and guards would have a code of conduct that would be strictly adhered to.

The "Criminals" in a nursing home would get cold food, be left all alone and unsupervised. Lights would go off at 8pm and they would get showers once a week.

They would live in a tiny room and pay $5000.00 per month and have no hope of ever getting out.

Justice for all!"

Makes you wonder, doesn't it? ;)

I have made jokes about doing something criminal so I could land in jail and let The System give me better care than the "Old Folks Home" - lollol

Sad, isn't it. I have known of criminals who after they get out of prison will commit crimes just to back to jail. I guess they figure its safer for them and they don't have to make the effort to find a job to house and feed themselves.

Very true. The food is fattening, the expectations are low and there is a sort of comfortable routine after a while, a routine that is usually lacking in the outside world. Can you really blame them? Have you seen the job market lately?

Looks like you guys have discovered my retirement program. It's called Medicare X. Everyone over 65 gets a gun and 4 bullets. You get to shoot 4 politicians. Now, the same people who tell you there isn't enough money in the budget to help you will see that you have everything you listed. Plus, you get rid of 4 useless politicians. Is this a great country, or what?

Unfortunately, for many people jail IS a big step up and they know so many of the other inmates already. This idea is funny and makes a good point. I think the real problem is our society's lack of spine when it comes to executions. I personally think more crimes should have the death penalty.

For example, a person goes into a store and points a gun a the clerk demanding money. The clerk gets nervous, the gun goes off, but the clerk survives. The perp chose to threaten the clerk with a gun and just by luck did not kill the clerk. Any crime where the perp has the intent or means to kill the charge should be attempted murder and attempted murder gets the death penalty.

There are so many people in prison right now who have committed such acts or even murder and are still sucking air.

Edited slightly from the OP. Remember some nations did well , at least one did, with NO JAILS. No Old Folks Homes - no one was "put away".

YEs, well, some tried again and again to find any job, and could not or for some reason did not.
Many working families the last thirty years have been living in tent cities or van cities or with someone else because basic family units are so broken and income has been not keeping up with costs.

I've often wondered about that. It seems like prison life would be better than life in poverty where you never know where your next meal is coming from and local gang activity makes going outside a dangerous endeavor.

On average, it costs about $37,000 per year to keep someone in prison. What a waste of taxpayer dollars! That amount of money would pull a lot of honest people out of poverty.

I would give the murderers and repeat offenders a handful of Fentanyl pills, and let them go "happily". The first offenders would be housed in a "tent city", and given little more than the basics...might make them think twice before doing something to send them back to prison.

Yes, locally and nationally I reckon poor people often make choices that seem extreme to people "of means". Some even , in places, have made themselves sick on purpose /before the last three years/ to get gov money when it is available - even drinking contaminated blood has been reported particular in greece...... /the country/....

The goal of dhs and government and agencies has been NOT to help people/families get eduated or employable or even a tiny bit of help they need - as little as a hundred dollars a month for diapers for instance, rather to make everyone slaves..... and it has worked. worldwide.

I'd put them all in solitary confinement where the only activity or entertainment provided is reading. Some might actually benefit from that. Others would suffer immensely — so much so that it would act as a strong deterrent to coming more crimes that could put them back in prison once they got out.

I don't know whether it was intentional or unintentional, but one result of 'welfare reform' has been that individuals who need any help at all have their Rights in/to their own families taken away. In my opinion, that's the main reason this idiotic program has got to GO.

When 'welfare' was started, FAMILIES benefited. (see image) However, with Welfare Reform and giving states the right to do it their own way, the initial approach of "abawd" does not apply- the "wd" part, I mean. People may say regarding healthy able-bodies adults "why shouldn't they WORK?!" but states throughout the U.S. have been eliminating the wd part- to receive any assistance they must work REGARDLESS of whether or not they have "dependents."

It's mainly unfair to those who have small children, but can also affect those who have disabled or elderly family members- stick 'em in daycare or a nursing home and go to work!! In this area, daycares accept babies "FROM BIRTH!" Not ok, really it isn't. afdc40-205x300.jpg

To be honest, I was in several nursing homes over 9 months. The first ones were paid by Medicare, and were not horrendous, but not "caring" either. The last one was paid by me. And it was quite pleasant. I wouldn't have traded any of them for a jail cell.
