It's always a nightmare when things like this happen , we have it here occasionally... too

Thousands of ice creams have been urgently recalled from US supermarket shelves over fears they could be contaminated with listeria.

Food safety watchdogs have stuck a 'do not eat' alert on more than 70 products manufactured by Totally Cool Inc.

It is feared the treats — including Friendly's ice cream cakes, Hershey's ice cream cones and Jeni's sandwiches — may contain the bacteria.

The bug can cause a potential fatal type of food poisoning, with pregnant women among the most at risk, which is why health chiefs take any indication of an outbreak extremely seriously.

So just how worried should you be and what should you do if you think you've eaten a contaminated product?

Totally Cool, a Maryland-based company that produces ice cream products has recalled items through the FDA due to a possible listeria outbreak. Friendly's was one of the company's whose products were affected

Hershey's products are among those that were distributed nationwide through retail and direct delivery that have the potential to be infected with listeria

Listeria poses a particular threat to the elderly, pregnant women and babies.

In 2022, 167 cases of listeriosis were reported to national surveillance in England and Wales (Figure 1), representing a 6.4 per cent increase in reported cases compared to the previous five year average.
Meanwhile in the US, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimate around 1,600 Americans get listeriosis each year.

But experts have long warned this could be an underestimate as many healthy adults may not seek help for symptoms.

Listeriosis, the infection caused by listeria, can trigger severe illness, hospitalisation and, in severe cases, death among those most at risk.

After my son, grandson, and cats Ice Cream is the most important thing to me. I love it like it's a person. Really. All my Life.

Therefore, this thread is of utmost importance to me. I usually have Friendly's, then Edy's, then Haagan Daz. Thank you Holly. May I live long and eat Ice Cream Forever!

I saw that yesterday and feared for the few Friendly's around here that hadn't already closed. This may be the last straw for some restaurants.

I'm currently addicted to Kroger's Private Selection Sea Salt Caramel Truffle so I'll make it through these tough times.

I'm not laughing at the seriousness of the subject...rather your last sentence lol...

...there does seem to be a very long list for recall... people don't realise just how dangerous Listeria can be... and here in the Uk it annoys me sometimes because there will be a recall of some foods.. for example pies from Aldi... but where is the notice ?.. on the door of the supermarket, that's where ..not in the national press.. but on the door. People will have already consumed the offending food, before they'll make another trip back to the store.. and see the notice..

That's terrible. I see there is even a dairy free sorbet listed there. It must be commercial beause it's a 3 gallon tub. I did buy some berry sorbet at Safeway supermarket a few weeks ago.

It can happen with so many things and I guess we're lucky if we dodge them. Peanut butter comes to mind also which I buy enough of.

DH and I were just talking about the jump in recalls.
He asked me if there was a site I could go to and check daily or at least before I shop.

Mine neither, thank goodness I only eat Haagan Daz. I usually con't eat ice cream but have recently to try to gain weight after an illness.
A lot of times when I grocery shop I get one of the Haagan Daz single serve coffee ice creams. It comes with the little spoon in the lid. Just enough to have a delicious snack before driving home.

I'm another HD fan...little more expensive than other ice-cream but the taste is so much nicer. Currently in my freezer I have strawberries and cream flavour.. and there's big chunks of real strawberries in it

Me, too, I have Strawberry in my freezer right now and also Pineapple /Coconut and Creamy Mango.. Haagen Das (still can't spell it) is the best. I still won't be able to fit any Robber Bands in there. :ROFLMAO:

Glad to see that my state and my brand (Turkey Hill) are not on the list.

Turkey Hill makes an absolutely delicious ice cream, "all natural" with no artificial ingredients. Vanilla bean and chocolate, that's it. Boring, but so delicious that I wonder why I ever got anything else. It's a little on the higher end pricewise, but not in the ridiculous price category.

I don't know if it's a local brand or sold more widely.

I can’t remember when I last saw these little cups. I’d buy one.

I am reporting: contracted listeria from (my favorite) Frozen Farmers sorbet.
Initially- violent vomiting overnight. Then two weeks of intestinal cramping.
Finally in recovery stages now.
