Little known songs and singers from the past

Old codger
I came across this blues song called "Laura" performed by a singer called Julie London I'd never heard of before and thought it worth sharing, (do you know of other songs we've all seemed to miss, but worthy of our attention?):

The definitive version of "Laura" sung by Ella Fitzgerald in 1964 with the Nelson Riddle orchestra, (you may have heard this longer version?):

Julie London was a very popular artist back in the 50s and 60s. She had a sultry voice and the song Laura was from a popular movie of the same name of the late 40s, starring Dana Andrews and Gene Tierney. All were very well known stars in America back in the day.

A dandy of a Western swing novelty song originally performed in 1947 by Tex Williams in the "talking blues" style, "Smoke! Smoke! Smoke! (that cigarette)" is cute, catchy, and delivered an anti-smoking message way ahead of the 60's Surgeon General report. The song decries "nicotine slaves" and the chorus tells of a deceased smoker making St. Peter wait at the "Golden Gates" 'cause he has to have just one more cigarette. The song was also performed by Jimmy Dean, Sammy Davis Jr., and even Willie Nelson...

Can't forget Commander Cody and his lost planet Airmen.

George not on the record.
Great track, never heard it before, and you could almost take the vocals being done by Bob Dylan couldn't you, (on his eightieth birthday!), maybe long instrumental section at the end had something to do with the reason why it wasn't played more often, though I liked that too..

I never knew until I heard this song a few months ago that Foster Brooks could sing.I only knew him as a comedian.
