Oh drool. Now THATs MY kind of 🏍 bike.👍
Absolutely beautiful. ❤️

The Indian was a different type of bike altogether.
There’s a great movie called ‘the Fastest Indian’ which stars Anthony Hopkins thats made about the Indian motorcycle. It’s a great movie and a great make of bike.

Did you actually see the movie ?.....It is more about Burt Munro, than Indian He [Munro] was a different sort of guy, tenacious to say the least.. At the time of his records, he was 68, and he did it on a near 50 year old [nearly hand built] motorcycle.

Yes more than once. Yes it WAS more about the rider. It’s a story not a documentary. It was about the man who won the fastest record and it was done on an Indian motorcycle. I didnt misunderstand the movie if that’s what you are getting at.

Why was Indian a different type of bike altogether? They were in direct competition with Harley Davidson, actually almost identical through the variations, just, as many believe, better engineered & built .

Because one is manufactured by Harley and the other manufactured by Indian. No mystery there.😬

If you are a Harley lover rgp that’s ok. I’m not here to try and change your mind.

Why do you make assumptions ?

I have no brand loyalty. I have owned several brands........Luv'em all. When I was a kid, I wrenched on both Indian & Harley, with my dad.

I’m not making any assumptions. That’s why I included the word ‘if’. If anyone was assuming anything here it was you when you asked if I’d ‘even’ seen the movie. I may have never worked on Harleys or Indians but that doesn’t mean I don’t know the difference between them.

I've never been to Leesburg but I've been to Daytona...And "I've never been to heaven but I've been to Oklahoma." ;)

How about Bikes, Blues' and BBQ in Eureka Springs Ar. (y) Happens every September. It too has gotten bigger every year.
Or if you're ever around New Hampshire in June, hit the Laconia Motorcycle Week. (the worlds oldest motorcycle rally) (y)

Oh OK, gotcha....If I ask a question I'm assuming, but if you ask a question, you're not....yeah got it....😒

No I stated IF you are a Harley lover that’s ok.
There was no assumption which is why I used the would IF.

When I suggested “The fastest Indian” movie you instantly asked if I’d even watched it making the ‘assumption’ that I hadn’t.

There IS a difference.

My two first vehicles were motorcycles. Neither one was a Harley or an Indian but I certainly took a huge interest in them and bikes in general and always have.

I'm not an American either, but I know Harley Davidson is not a motor cycle, it's a way of life!

Sturgis is still on my bucket list!

Very true, and you really have to own one to understand it. Having said that, I was never into the HD culture with the uniforms -- while claiming they're NOT conformists.

But the bikes themselves and how you ride them are unique. My previous bikes were all the fastest available at the time I bought them. I grew out of that in my 30s as some sense of mortality starts to creep into the minds of young males. In my 20s, I wound my 900 Kaw flat out, 135 mph at night. Although I was going 100 or better on a regular basis, winding one flat out takes a mile or so, and increases the danger beyond what the actual speed is.

But getting into Harleys I found that HD guys like to race each other. We didn't race any imports because we all knew it would be a waste of time, but racing each other was a whole different matter. I ended up putting in a mild cam, doing some headwork, updating the tranny, changing the carb and exhaust on my '88 Heritage. It woke it up a bit and it actually ran better (not just faster) than when new.

And, of course, a custom paint job. Back in '98 I asked a local artist, who was in his 70s at the time, to come up with some kind of boar's head (Hog!) to paint on the tanks, but I didn't want any fantasy art. He went to the library and looked at all the various types of wild swine around the world, then made a pencil sketch composite of them all and showed it to me. I said "Do it!"

There is no actual animal out there that looks like this, but I liked the pencil sketch as soon as I saw it and had him paint the tanks. I got a lot of positive comments on it from other peeps:

Wrong, by giving me your unnecessary approval you assumed that i was.

When you noted the movie, you did just that , 'noted' the movie....with no indication that you had in fact watched it.........so I asked. I asked because I thought the movie....despite the title was more of a 'human interest' story about Munro. I wondered if you saw it the same?

I think was expecting it to be more technical? But in the end I liked what I viewed .

Just a note.....I'm no fan of Hollywood , and not a 'critic' of actors, but I thought Hopkins did a fantastic job playing Munro.

I have read a couple'a books about him [Munro] and despite some of his 'quirky' ways, he was/is someone to be admired..........jmo

There was no approval. It’s called agreement so let’s just agree to disagree then.

Note: I also thought Hopkins did an outstanding job in the movie. He was a very likeable guy. I’ll agree with all of that. 🥰

Well.......you did say, "that's OK".....that's approval .

I think the only other movie I've seen Hopkins in was the Silence of the Lambs ? He played that well, as well.

LOL 😂 Actually I use OK in agreement but whatever.

Anthony Hopkins is an incredible actor. He’s so versatile. Viewing him in polar opposite roles of character was refreshing. . It was a heartwarming story.

Did the movie live up to the books you read about Munro?

Yeah, I think it did....of course some "dramatic license" added.....but that's just Hollywood.

I would have like to have seen a little more of the 'hands-on' struggles he faced with building his motorcycle given his limited resources & [at the time] equipment. But,.......that might have made it boring to the non-gear head audience ?

Every time there is an accident with a motorcycle here, it is always fatal. And it is almost always because of a driver of a car not paying attention. But sometimes it's a motorcycle driver speeding like the wind. I'd never ride one even behind someone else. But then no one is going to ask me to anyway, not to say there aren't older bikers. I see them here a lot. There are bike clubs here where they ride together. I've seen them at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, where my mom has a niche. I guess at that age it doesn't mean necessarily visiting someone that had an accident death.
