Living alone, do you hear that noise @ 3 AM?

I always assume noises in the night must be the cat. A couple weeks ago when I got up later I discovered that night's noise had been a painting falling off the wall in the living room.

I've lived in the same home for thirty five years, I know all the creaks and cracks that pop in the night, I know all the critter sounds from the surrounding woods and swamp. Those sounds are a comfort to me.

Yet once in awhile a new sound will happen and I am up instantly, not that I expect a burglar or boggyman, but I need to check nothings going wrong like a tree on the roof or aliens crash landing in the yard.

Noises? … living in my apartment is like living in a bunker !!! .. no outside noises .. even on my top floor.
If there is a large thunderstorm in the area, I do hear the booms rattling around, otherwise nothing.

I don’t know if this is a good or bad thing.
Last year’s Hurricane Beryl came directly at us, and the high winds did damage just outside my patio, and around the buildings, but the lack of hearing the noise level of the wind inside my apartment made me unaware of the severity of the storm when it was happening.

Did you turn on your hearing aid?;)

My bugaboo is the voices i hear inside my head at nite....dang
stuff is annoying...
This was a legitimate concern for me for a few weeks back when I kids were in college.

I kept hearing muffled voices in the middle of the night. Try as I might, I couldn't make out what they were saying.

I was honestly worried. Am I hearing voices in my head?

Turns out it was my son's TV I was hearing through the wall.

I have a nature sounds/noise machine that I turn on each night after I turn off the TV and finish reading. It has types of sounds to choose from, brook, rain, ocean, summer night, thunder and white noise.
My daughter bought me one of those, but the sounds running constantly annoyed me, even though I liked them. Strangely, T V show chatter helps me drift off to sleep.

I'm glad for the volume control. Sometimes I like it louder and other times, quieter. I also have it in the drawer besides my bed. I can close or open the drawer depending on how muffled I want it to be. 😉👍🏽
