Living Alone - Practical Downside

Sometimes most Church goers are not Christians. They just need a community that cares, joining one might not be too late. Most of the church activities will also keep you busy
You missed my point. In 2023, a growing number of Americans are members of other religions. Sikhs, Muslims, Hindus, Jews, to name just a few. I don't think any of those people are going to join a Christian congregation, do you ? The face of your country is changing, and it is not the one you remember as a kid. JimB.

I agree with Deby - my church has an Encouragers Club. It is great fellowship and we send cards to others who are ill, or in grief over a loss, or anyone just needing an encouraging word. We have a Senior Ministry too but not since COVID-
A young person who ran the Ministry had to focus more on her growing family but us seniors are all so busy, no one has stepped up to start it again. I am also a Prayer Warrior. Through Covid we met every week via ZOOM instead off at someone's home.
There are only a few seniors at my church who do not use a PC. I finally found out how to post my photo here!
I am still getting used to this site.

That sounds like an option. I'd imagine in the post-lockdown era rebuilding community and funding sources must be a priority for churches. Many went to online services and not everyone has come back to physically attending. Not that they're grubbing for money, but they don't run on happy thoughts alone either.

Most of the adjustment is probably on our side. Lots of us took pride in independence for a long time, we may have become more insular though those lockdown years ourselves, and being less quick and nimble might have dampened our enthusiasm about crowds or opening up to new people.

I'd want to be upfront with the leadership though. People who work and live to serve others can be pretty accepting, but the last thing you want is sidelong glances and tittering from the rank and file. You might have to grit those teeth and get through an introduction, but I suspect members of the clergy know the process well and can bring you aboard with a minimum of drama.

It varies based on where you live. I'm not in or near a major metro area, but we do have a Hindu temple within 2 miles of me, a couple of mosques not much further out, even a forest Buddhist temple, monastery, and meditation center within 10 miles. My neighbors across the street are from India.

I know people living in or around small cow towns that don't have any of that in their communities, but they are still aware of things. I know one farm couple who live way out and they're big fans of the old "Little Mosque on the Prairie" TV sitcom.

You know that "Little Mosque " was a Canadian Broadcasting Corporation TV production, right ? Shot in Alberta. JImB.

Welcome, @Widow of Vietnam Vet ! Your name suggests you are a widow! I am one also, it's been ten years now. It is great you are a Prayer Warrior. I think that is wonderful that you kept it up even with Covid.

The department of aging helped me navigate Medicaid for my friend in a nursing home. The social worker was a huge help. They will give people referrals to agencies or programs that may be able to help.

No as a former social worker I can say that they aren’t going to mow your lawn or order your groceries. If you can’t pay for and coordinate these services then you probably can’t live by yourself. They will help you get qualified for meals on wheels and any other programs that you may qualify for. Your expectations are ridiculous!!
The department of aging helping you navigate Medicaid regarding a friend in a nursing home isn’t helping the elderly who want to age in their own homes. This thread is about the needs of the OP and elderly who are aging in their own homes. I have no expectations from the department of aging. Your reading comprehension skills are poor and ridiculous !!

You are extremely negative and most of your posts on any topic reflect that attitude. Your screen name should be Crabby Ann.
