First: "Colon cancer is curable when it's treated early, so get Cologuard for early detection."

Then, "Cologuard produces false positives & false negatives."

Yeah.....Our product can save your life, but it's not reliable, but we want you to buy it, anyway.

Just makes ya wanna order it....

This is just a "stool sample"....for $650. Virtually anyone with health insurance can get the same test for free, or a minor co-pay. The company which sells this "test" probably makes millions/yr. in profits....even after paying for their TV commercials.

Damn near every internal medicine advertised is the same. Take our med, for this or that, to ease symptoms ....... but be aware, it can cause a worse problem up to and including death.

And then they suggest you ask your doctor about/for it !

I just had a Cologuard test done. I got the "it might, or it might not work" notice. I'm not sure if that's for legal reasons, or the test is that iffy. I was dogged by the company with a bunch of phone calls prompting me to send a sample. Hey, you go when you go. This is my own personal opinion, but I got the idea the company would loose money if I didn't complete the test.

Last appointment Doc suggested Cologuard. As I was arguing against it she said, "Wait a minute, you just had a test 3 months ago, we'll continue this next time." Hee hee.

I had a Cologurard $650.00 test done a couple of years ago and my PCP is already talking about one for 2021.

It annoys me that prior to Cologuard we had a poop on a postcard test that cost about $20.00 and it was a fine first test to see if anything additional needed to be done.

Wonder why health care costs are out of control?

My doctor suggested cologuard early this year and then it was never sent to me! I looked at MyChart and see it's in the orders but don't know how to get it:rolleyes::sneaky:

There's a very good reason your doctor suggested Cologuard - she was well paid by the manufacturer. The same reason Dr. Oz promoted green coffee extract for weight loss (useless, of course). Once a doctor promotes a product, the manufacturer is allowed to include "Doctor Recommended" in their ads to boost sales. It usually works, since many (ignorant) people are impressed by that.
Dentists are also well paid by toothpaste makers to say that brand "Strengthens Enamel." And "Crest kills bacteria."

Years ago, I attended a Diabetes Education Class run by a CDE (Certified Diabetes Educator). I thought it would be well worth the $170.00 fee to learn about nutrition, care, etc. It was a 3-hour class. The class topics:
First hour: Teaching us about all the drugs to ask your doctor to prescribe much like today's TV ads (as if your doctor wouldn't already know). Passing out brochures - each page was mostly drug ads about the "miracle benefits." Passing out brochures with information about how to eat right at McDonalds, Carl's Jr. & Taco Bell. (Sponsored, of course by those places).

Second hour: A Dental Hygienist talked about the importance of tooth care for diabetics - mainly by buying the products sold in their office - Special Mouthwashes, toothpastes & special toothbrushes for diabetics.

Third hour: A receptionist who worked at a Podiatrist's office talked about the importance of proper foot care for diabetics - by buying the Special Socks, Shoes, & insoles they sell at their office. She mainly wanted to sell their $350.00 shoes & $20.00/per pair socks.

Why does it seem too me that diabetes has just exploded all over the place ? I mean that's all ya see on TV commercials anymore. Diabetes this & diabetes that, commercials for all sorts of meds to combat it, etc. & so-on. Hell just five years ago ya rarely ,if ever, heard anything about it.

They tell me I'm pre-diabetic ? They [doc] tells me I'm sometimes high, sometimes normal. He suggested i loose weight , [for that & my hip, knee & ankle arthritis . So I lost [to date] 53 pounds ... don't feel a damn bit better.

I done a colon stool test, similar to Cologuard, thru the VA. My VA doctor told me my test showed "ok" and that I didn't need the exam. Funny, but I put the stool test in the mail, as per instructions, but it never got to the Lab. "What??", I thought. Got another one from my VA doctor and this one, after I done the stool, I delivered to my VA Clinic myself.

Several things are blamed for the diabetes rates - obesity, processed food, fast food, too much fat in the diet, damaged immune systems, genetics, chemicals, preservatives, impurities in our food & water, etc. They either don't know, or they know & aren't saying.
And, to sell more drugs, they'll lower the standards of what is "normal" blood pressure, "normal" cholesterol & "normal" blood sugar. Every time those normal numbers are lowered, they can put more people on drugs.

Similar to my thoughts as well.........
