Looking to interview someone (late 70s to 80s)

McCarthyism

New Member
Hi everyone,
I know this is a very different post, but I'm a high school student doing a project on the red scare and McCarthyism and I would love to be able to interview one of you about your thoughts on McCarthy and how you felt about it.

If anyone is willing to be interviewed I would be so happy!

Love to help but I'm afraid over here we regarded him a bit like we regard le Pen now - a bit of an eccentric, good for a morning laugh.

It wasn't until later that we, or rather I, realised how much of a grip he nearly got, like Hitler in his early tears.

That's completely fine! As long as you have something to say about him, anything is completely fine. I'll send you a private message

He was a horrifyingly evil man. He ruined the careers of many innocent people and produced a great deal of fear and mistrust, all for his own political benefit.

Feel free to send me a private message if you like.

Thanks for the Pm.

I honestly don't think I can help in an objective way.

My recollections of views then have been greatly influenced by events and life experiences since and would not be a true reflection.

Even the election of your current President has had its influence.

I am over80. He was a little man (junior senator) trying to make a name for himself. He did but it was not a good name. He was elected to the senate 1n 1946 and he set about ruining the careers and lives of many fine people. He had some of the more susceptible looking under their beds for "commies". His 1954 Senate hearings got him censured by the senate.
