Love is all you need. Is it? A philosophical question.

There are so many types of love..but what I like to keep in mind is you have to love yourself before you can truly love other people or things....

For believers, love is the common denominator in how to relate to God and to others, and to ourselves.

Love is a tricky word. It’s most often understood as an intense feeling of deep affection. Biblically though, love has a much deeper and richer meaning; it transcends a feeling or emotion. This is what we see in 1 Corinthians 13. Paul tells us that love isn’t merely a feeling but a way of relating to others.

While most of us are fairly familiar with 1 Corinthians 13, slowing down to read it empowers us to enjoy subtle beauties we may otherwise miss. In this timeless passage on love, Paul uses poetic symmetry to deepen his point. He lists eight things love embraces and eight things love resists.

1 Corinthians 13:4–8a Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth.

Put simply, if the world followed St Paul's definition of love, war would be redundant.
What I found interesting about Corinthians !: 13 was there are only two positives..patience and kindness and thinking about it, that is all we need..again to others and to ourselves.

I think the world would be a better place if we got rid of religion. It sometimes seems that religious belief is the source of more hatred than love. As a secular humanist, I believe that love is a deep human emotion - nothing to do with 'god'.

Respectfully, I do think many really love God but what they do to others in the name of that of love confounds me.

Ideal love is unconditional. Real love is conditional in that if one breaks from the expected behavior then separation occurs...along with guilt. Not scary, but 99% true. Do not we all enforce our "laws" on others?
I agree with most of what you said, but when you throw 'laws' into that mix, I'm not sure what that means.

There are many more positives to that scripture.
In addition to patience and kindness there is this in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8 Love never fails.

I don't know if you meant to reduce all believers into one religious stereotype of their "religious belief being the source of more hatred than love".....but you did. And you think human emotion has nothing to do with 'god' who created humans and emotions. We get it. So who or what do you think created love? Science I take it....that's your belief. I find that harder to believe. But we're made with the ability to choose. Who created the ability to choose?

Sorry if I was not clear and I agree all of it is positive..but I was trying to refer to how things were stated e.g. love is patient vs Love does not.....i.e. what we should do as opposed to what we should not do..
I did not see '
rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
so thank you for that(y)

I gave up on organized religion but I do think many find value and comfort there. I also say we are all on our own path so perhaps some need organized religion. I agree with you that much harm has been done in the name of religion and unfortunately and tragically that is still the case.
