Low cost airlines will officially launch 'standing only seats' in 2026

I wouldn’t even consider flying anywhere while seated in one of these seats. Even if they sold $1 tickets like Spirit Airlines did in 2011.
Remember that fare war back then? It was for tickets between LAX and LAS.

Personally I don't remember it, but I wouldn't.... however here the budget airlines, specifically Ryanair have said they are likely to sell those standing seats for between £1-£5....

No... it says it has been approved for up to 2 hours and will start in 2006... Ryanair the budget airline to beat all budget airlines.. who penny pinch on evrything are the first to have them installed
Remember when stewardesses escorted you to your seat, served full course meals, plus mixed drinks, and apologized if the napkins weren't crispy white. Now, you're lucky if the don't brand you as you run down the cattle shoot to your hanging area..

And to save more Airplane space, there will be no more bathrooms. You'll have to pee in a Ruffles Potato Chip bag...then toss it out the window at a low altitude.

I know you do.. but I've never been able to afford first or business class..... ..maybe I'll be one of the first to try a standing seat... for a Pound... :sneaky::D
Seriously, doubt that's gonna be a happening with air fairs. Considering the average cost to park in the parking lot runs $30 - $70 a day here.

Did you notice the seat is creased to accept urine in it. Now you can wonder whose urine you just sat on. Oh the degradation! ... :poop: ...

I'm old enough to remember when flying was a true event. It was exciting, you were treated like royalty, and everyone was polite and in order.

Today? It's like a zoo. I flew EasyJet once, and that was more than enough. These seats will make it even worse.

Would I pay to travel in such seats? No. In fact, hell no.

Why don’t you consider getting an airlines credit card. Once you reach “x” amount of points, you will be able to use those points for a free upgrade. That’s usually what I do. I only get a coach seat free. Well, sometimes I get a free upgrade if all the seats in FC or BC are not sold.

I have seen people do that same thing. They ask at the gate if the FC and/or BC seats are all sold and if the gate agent says no, you can ask for a free upgrade. Gate Agents have the ability to upgrade your ticket, or even give you a really nice discount. It’s worth a shot.

Good idea, I already have one airline credit card... might be worth me getting a different one...

Several budget airlines will reportedly introduce standing-only seating options next year.
I heard about 3 or 4 years ago that these things were coming. When they didn't show up, I thought we were done with them for good. I don't fly anymore so it doesn't personally bother me, except if I decide to fly again, which is unlikely. But the idea is retched.
Now, I haven't read the thread, and I probably won't, but how much will it cost to stand and fly?

I wonder if instead of a full plane of those seats the airlines will dedicate a section to the standing seats. I see better odds of people using them that way, if conventional seating is booked full I'd consider a seat like that for a short flight if I was desperate.

What virtual prizes can we come up with for anyone who can find any tangible evidence (other than tabloid newspapers), that this type of seating will be put in place by some airlines in 2026.

In the meantime, other news outlets jumped on this story yesterday and today with these words:

"While Ryanair’s plans never materialised, other airlines have never made the leap to add vertical seats, and none appear to be gearing up to introduce them in the future."

And this one:
"However, as it stands no airline has confirmed it will be introducing the seats."

And from another news outlet yesterday:
"Presently, however, there is no confirmation from any airline about adopting these standing-seat configurations."

Published yesterday:
"In 2012, Ryanair boss Michael O’Leary sparked backlash when he said he’d consider using the seats. He suggested fitting planes with 10 rows of standing-seats, which would cost as little as £1. But fast forward to 2025, and a Ryanair spokesperson told Metro that passengers don’t need to worry. When asked if the Irish carrier was set to launch standing-only seats they responded: ‘Ryanair has no plans to do so."

Who wants to help me find an airline that said they will be using them next year. Maybe we could all try to find a report or citation from official airline announcements or regulatory confirmations. Or else it just looks like, tabloids strike again.

I fully expect that is what will happen . I think somewhere it was said that they would take up 20 % of the space....

First of all it's only going to be Budget airlines who will use this system, and only for flights less than 2 hours. The first budget airline to confirm they will use them is the money grubbing Airline Ryanair, and their CEO said yesterday that intially the tickets for those standing seats will cost between £1-£5... of course that's conjecture, we'll wait and see..

I think the airlines should make the seating horizontal, stack us up like firewood. I'd rather lay down for a few hours than sit in any airline seat, let alone a stand up seat.
You should submit that to Boeing. They must have overlooked it.
