Anyone use a magnesium supplement ? Capsule , Tab, or epidermal oil ? Have an opinion on it? Or if it used , an opinion on which is better / best ? I have read that it is good for better health in general.

Just too many "big-pharma" meds out there....so researching alternatives.

Yes, both my husband and I take Magnesium Citrate daily, he uses the Natural Factors capsules, and I use the NOW brand powder form. We also always have Magnesium Oil on hand, very good for immediate relief of muscle cramps, also good for sore muscles and worked well years ago when I had a bout of Plantar Fasciitis. We both take an Epsom Salts bath now and then too before bed for relaxation/muscle soothing. An old thread with a couple of links here. https://www.seniorforums.com/showthread.php/26679-Magnesium-for-Relaxation-and-Health?highlight=magnesium

Like you, I try and stay away from prescription drugs, so far so good, but do use a lot of supplements over the years.

I use Magnesium Citrate, the capsule. This product. I take magnesium to benefit the nervous system, heart health, help anxiety levels....and, Mag citrate is a good aid to keep you "regular". ;)

I use a Magnesium Oil Spray on my feet and legs and rub it in. Seems to help sleep.
Yes Lon I started using the spay on my feet a year or so ago, which I originally tried to help with sleep, but though it didn't help with that, it gave me a lot more energy, and lifted my mood.
I make the oil (it's not really oil) myself by adding the magnesium crystals to boiled water. My whole family and most of our friends now use the oil with great success . The capsules are not always effective and can upset the digestive system. My daughter Cathy who is a nurse in our local hospital, gives it to patients regularly by injection, magnesium deficiency affects over 75% off the population.

The reason for spraying it on your feet:

Oils Delivered Faster Through The Bottom of your Feet
The pores are thicker on the sole of the foot and our legs act like straws sucking up the compounds quickly into the bloodstream. If applied all over the bottom of the foot, the oil can be detected in every cell of the body within 20 minutes!

The soles of the feet and the palms of the hand are the only sites on our body without Sebaceous Glands.
Since Sebum is an oily substance it would actually further “shield” the body from absorption of anything. Since the palms and the soles do not secrete sebum, they are more ready to absorb oil.

Thank you all for all the replies.

While I have been using Mag for about 10 months [spray] I admit to being [lazy] or forgetful with it. Which was the reason for my question. Now I believe I would benefit by improving my use of it. When I first started, I used it regularly , thinking back to that time, things seemed different [better] . Sine you all have fortified my reasons for starting , I'll get back to it. I may even purchase the softgels and increase my intake, and see what happens.

These are high magnesium foods.
High magnesium foods include dark leafy greens, seeds, beans, whole grains, fish, nuts, dark chocolate, yogurt, avocados, bananas and more. The current daily value (DV) for magnesium is 400mg.

If you are getting that in your diet then you are just wasting money on pills. It just gets flushed out through your kidneys.

I like the dark chocolate stuff.

Eating food with magnesium is fine, but doesn't supply you with enough of the mineral for health benefits, these days the produce we buy is depleted of minerals for various reasons also, more HERE.

Some people swear by soaking their feet(to ease periphal neuropathy sx) in Magnesium sulfate, commonly known as epsom salt.

Years ago, my dad & i were talking about similar things. [he passed in 93] He said that at one time he used to soak in Epsom salt. He went on to say that..back then I just felt better , I need to get back to that.....or words similar... He lived in Fla, & i here [Ohio] so do not know if he ever did.

Too bad i can't try, as i do not have a tub, only a shower stall.

I take Magnesium Citrate, and I use Magnesium Sulfate (Epsom Salt) and was surprised and how relaxed I got using it. Too relaxed, because I wanted to sleep too early in the day, like around 3, and needed toothpicks for my eyes.

I cut back to just a supplement, not Epsom. But if I need to relax before bed, I can take a bath with the ES, or I can also use a wrap on my neck which has bone-spurs. The wrap helps relieve the ache/pain in my neck, and will just about knock me out, with no, icky hangover in the a.m. like when I used Tylenol PM. A person that takes other scripts should check with their doc, imo. Also, go easy on the supplement magnesium until you know how much you can take without getting the trots.

So yes, it's soooooooo good for "regularity" and/or constipation. I read that something like 40% of Americans (maybe it was higher, can't recall) are deficient of Magnesium.
