Make walking a daily habit

If I'm ever fully retired. I wonder what the cats would think if I got a dog? It would be a rescue of course. I have thought about this because I can and do self isolate. A dog would force me out. And it would. If I have a pet, I want it to have the best life possible so walking the dog would be a must.

At 87, I am walking with my 3 dogs every morning one hour, and usually also one hour in the evening. My pups love it, and I need it to keep me going. For weight loss, my doctor advised me to lower carbs and sweets.
I walk every morning and during my breaks at work and during my lunch hour. Lift weights a few days a week, just keep moving in general.

i cant get out and do my usual long daily walks now, but when the weather allows and we get out i can push hubby for miles which is great,
but if not , i estimate , i walk miles in the house from 7am until i actually sit down in the evening ,
so im not worrying so much about my exercise, plus i go on my exercise bike every morning !!!

Was out for quite a bit Monday, doing loads of walking. I loved it, loved being out in the sun & warmth. Paid a price, as I don't get out enough & I should! My walking muscles are weak, like the rest of me, but I will really try this spring to be out and walk more even if I have nowhere to go and nothing to buy. I must do this for myself, I must be kinder to me.

Go for it, Remy! When we brought our puppy home, Mickey the cat crept up to see it, all crouched down in stalking mode. I'm sure he was thinking, "Let me kill that for you." But he fell in love with the puppy just as we did and they became the best of friends.

Whenever we took the dog for a walk, the cat would always follow, about 20 feet behind.

I was furloughed during the covid lockdown and had ample time to up my daily walking regimen. At that time I was 64. I walk on fairly level sidewalks. I walked 5 days a week. I got up to 20 miles a day. Did that for about 3 months before cutting back since it was taking about 6 hours. I listen to audiobooks downloaded from the library. One interesting point is that it wasn't very long before I stopped losing any weight even though I continued eating only about 1800 calories a day. I am now retired and looking to get back to it.
Now that’s a walk. I have to drive out to the country to walk. I have walked from 7 in the morning until 7 in the evening with nothing except water and cut up fruit. Put it in my backpack and off I go. I never measured the mileage. And, yes, I carry a concealed weapon and a knife in my sock. Surprisingly, I do pass quite a few other hikers. I guess people like getting out of the city.

You're an inspiration. I know I need to be doing the same thing but have not been. I certainly need to lose weight and keep my heart healthy. It would also help control my blood sugar levels (I'm a diabetic). I told myself I'd start walking more often, though didn't lie to myself and say it would be every day, but I haven't committed yet. Now that the weather is nicer I will try to walk more often.

Walking is really good for me and I'm sure it's pretty good for you. If you walk, your balance will be very good and you wouldn't have to worry about falling down. My back is straight and I lead an active lifestyle.

Of course, I don't only walk:
1. When I get up I do some stretch exercises and a couple exercises on the floor.
2. I spend some time on the thread mill downstairs.
3. Then I walk. I love walking outside and find walking inside boring. However, in the dead of winter or when the rain is falling I walk those "boring hallways. No excuses for me! Glad to say I am self-motivated.

Day before yesterday I did 30 on the treadmill and yesterday I was on the car stops for about 20, so, that's an improvement over the last several weeks. Hoping I can get a trend going, again.

I started to walk at least 4 miles a day 37 years ago. Now I walk 2 miles because that’s what my two little dogs can do.

I have a hard enough time making waking a daily habit. :ROFLMAO:

My dog gets a walk around the block every day, and then we chase the ball around the yard four or five times a day, so that's a bit of exercise.

I used to love walking and thought nothing of 10 to 15 miles at a time,

Since being diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia and being on chemo every 6 weeks or so, I cannot manage much more than a mile in one go.

I have a pub just over 3/4 mile away, so I stop there for a pit stop and then walk home about 4 or 5 days a week. Sometimes I call into the local Chippy for plaice and chips.
