How does someone who is a Merrill Lynch financial advisor stoop to this level? What is wrong with the people in this country? He is yelling and disparaging teenagers when his son is 17? Fired by his firm, deservedly.

One of the big problems with modern society is that children are not being taught self-discipline. 'Let it all out' seems to be the attitude. Fine if you're alone in the middle of a field...not appropriate in the work place.

What this video indicates is that everybody has a cell phone and every action can be recorded. I don't think people are behaving much differently now than they were 5 or 10 or 20 years ago.

You be the Judge: Son Suffers Anaphylaxis from Smoothie, Father Rampages, is Arrested and Fired from Merrill Lynch

He was definitely wrong but, as the saying goes, there are two sides to every story.
I could understand the father's anger, but if I had a loved one who was allergic to peanuts, I WOULD NEVER let him eat or drink anything from a place that had peanuts or peanut products anywhere on their premises. And most places do. It's not smart. It's just too risky.

I think in the Court of Social Media only one version is allowed .....

Yes this person was totally out of control but if son had a serious reaction i can see a parent losing it.
I do think people should be more aware then they obviously are about how anyone can record you.
i have seen these posted without context.
The reality is more each day seem to not be able to control their anger ..... perhaps a problem of the attitude just let it out or more likely after not saying things it builds up and one small thing is blown WAY up.

I agree if my child had any allergy i would not trust any place with high potential for cross contamination
as a busy place like starbucks for example jut rinse the blenders in between use.

So we find out he was angry at the store for nearly killing his peanut-allergic son. Not the right reaction, but perhaps less awful given the circumstances.

Agree there are two sides but racism should never factor into it. It did say in the article "without the usual peanutbutter" I'm not sure if that means this place specializes in peanut shakes. If I or anyone I knew had such a life threatening allergy (which clearly it is) I wouldn't frequent any smoothie place that uses peanutbutter because even just rinsing a blender container is not enough. It's one of the reasons labels state "may contain" because while the package of something I'm looking at may not contain dairy, the facility may produce items with dairy. The machinery is cleaned but traces could remain. There are actually dedicated peanut/nut free cookie companies.

I don't consume dairy anymore but I'm grateful not to have any life threatening allergies and my favorite way to eat peanutbutter is with a spoon out of the jar. I do have intolerances but they won't kill me if I accidently eat it.

I find NO one is above really bad behavior .... often ones who are successful feel like they are invincible ....
i used to and to some extent agree with places of business firing someone that was identified as an employee
but this is slippery slope .............as I have heard of folks wanting to "find where that person works and make trouble"
if he was an advisor and clients fired him .... his career would end anyway
but this way IMO is firm preemptively beating any backlash to the punch

I couldn't agree more. What was this parent thinking? Ultimately it is HIS responsibility to be sure his child is safe.

I think it was the father's own fault. As the article said, these places are mostly staffed by teenagers. They get distracted, they make mistakes, some of them probably don't even understand what a peanut allergy entails. The father should have double checked the drink, or even better, should not have taken the kid in there for a drink in the first place.

I have had several friends who had severe nut allergies, or their kids did. Some of them can't even bring the kid into a room where nuts or peanut butter were recently used, as there are particles in the air. Was a smoothie really worth such a risk?

True enough. But even then, that is not everyone.
Very good point
seems like Bad behavior is painted with a wide brush ... i can only think people in other countries may get the idea this is normal behavior ....
Positive items seem to be missed in many cases ...

Yes, and that was all I was trying to point out. Thanks! :)
