It was decided that our right to freedom of speech was being violated when punished for warning other drivers of upcoming speedtraps...http://www.wibw.com/home/headlines/...-Lights-To-Warn-Of-Speed-Traps-243524131.html. :applause2: I'm not a speeder, never got a speeding ticket and don't condone unsafe driving or speeding, although I have gone over the limit at times, especially in my younger years.

I've seen cops hiding behind bushes with their radar guns, wanting another speeding ticket under their belts. There's one right down the block from me, always seeing someone pulled over. Meanwhile, there are dozens of people doing illegal u-turns, cutting each other off, and making left turns from the right lane...guess their not going to get any attention soon. Anyhoo, I've had folks flash their headlights at me, and always took heed as to what was ahead, and I have done it myself for others in the past. Making this 'head-up' a crime is ridiculous, IMO.

I think it's one of those things that don't really register on our radars (ha-ha) until we have a personal interaction with it.

For example, if someone near and dear to you was killed by a speeder, you might see this law as being right and proper.

Even though I used to be guilty as sin for speeding (c'mon - I drove sports cars!) I never warned others of speed traps. To me, part of the allure was the chance of being caught, that unknown element in the equation that added to the thrill.

I too have driven very fast in my younger years.. Extremely fast as I owned a corvette.. Need I say more ???

Today things are totally different.. I very rarely speed unless it is to pass a truck on the highway in a passing lane and then I resume the proper speed..

I have flashed oncoming cars whenever I see a speed trap.. I have also been flashed when a speed trap is up ahead..

So what is wrong with that ?? If I can do a good deed to someone that wants to perhaps kill themselves or others by speeding, then why not ???

At Christmas time, they tell you where the "road blocks" are for finding drunk drivers, so why not speeders ??

Greetings, Brother! (passes hand over wheel) ;)

What's wrong with it is that technically you are aiding and abetting. I know that's a silly concept for most, but that's what it really is. You're helping someone avoid being penalized for breaking the law.

Your "good deed", however well intentioned, is not going to change the speeder's behavior long-term - in fact, it might reinforce it, since they think there will always be someone to warn them.

The broadcasting of road blocks by the authorities is, IMHO, a very stupid move. They probably think it's going to decrease the number of drinkers on the road when in actuality it will merely re-route them to the smaller, more dangerous side-roads.

Phil..
I won't say you are entirely wrong, but in my heart, I still feel that warning the oncoming traffic of a speed trap is a good deed..

On the other hand, not everyone coming towards the trap is speeding..
The occasional idiot that is travelling at the rate of knots deserves to be caught..
Especially if they have had a drink or two ......

Very often when I am on the highway doing my 90kms someone passes me like I am standing still..

It's illegal here too which is pure hypocrisy as the Govt. defends it's over indulgence in money pot speed cameras as a 'safety measure' to slow speeding drivers down in dangerous areas. Yet they make it illegal for other drivers to flash their headlights as a 'safety measure' to slow speeding drivers down.
Now, howzzat work again???

No,no,no... they swear it has nothing to do with revenue raising and the law against us flashing headlights to slow them down has nothing whatever to do with the practice depriving the Gubmint of it's fines money. They swear it so there must be some other reason that eludes everyone because politicians never lie.

I still sometimes flash the headlights at speeders in flashy cars even though I know there's no radar traps or speed cameras behind me.
I just do it to troll them.:devilish:
I get a grin out of watching their brake lights come on in my rear view mirror. I'm a wicked wench sometimes.:triumphant:

(I don't speed much now, no point, not in a hurry, and the roads aren't good enough. But I've paid them a bit for the habit in the past.)

If you are speeding you deserve to get caught. It's only a trap if you are doing something wrong.

I wouldn't warn some jerk speeding, I'd think good, some knuckle head is going to get what they deserve.

Yes but what if takes out a family before the camera or radar ping him? And once the camera has gone off they keep speeding because the damage is done, the fine is in the mail and he may as well keep going. It doesn't always work out for the best unfortunately.
