Massage Therapy, types, benefits to ones mind and body~

LadyEmeraude

on vacation, back in September.
I have always been a fan of massage therapy, my very favorite being a full body Hot Rock/Stone Massage, which
I have not had now in 3 years, way too long, going to schedule one for this month sometime. How about
you, do you have a type of massage you enjoy?

Heat has long been used to ease muscle tension and pain. It helps increase blood flow to the affected area. It may also reduce muscle spasms and increase flexibility and range of motion. Cold therapy helps relieve inflammation. Depending on your symptoms, alternating hot and cold stones during your massage may be helpful. *I love this from head to toe, it is an amazing beneficial massage for me and why it is my favorite
massage done by a professional massage therapist.

I always enjoy a good massage. I have 2 diff massage therapists, with 2 diff styles of massage.
The girl does the typical swedish, and the male does something like physical therapy moves and lots of stretching.

I have him stretch my neck while I stretch my legs. Breathe in breathe out.
In fact, I made an appt for this Saturday. He always makes me laugh too, so that's super beneficial.

Oh, I do love a good gentle massage, gentle being the operant word. I've only had one "therapeutic" massage and that was enough! I don't care for anything like Rolfing at all. Rolf, stay away!

My all-time favorite massage was at the historic baths in Saratoga Springs. First you get a long soak in a very deep bath filled with fizzy mineral water, slightly radioactive at that. It's like soaking in murky, salty, bitter ginger ale. Then you get an hour's massage...aaaaahhhhh...and then they wrap you in a hot sheet and put you to bed. You can stay as long as you want because there are lots of rooms. It was a rather grim setting, old bathtubs set in the floor, very institutional rooms with windows set up high in the walls, iron beds....sort of like a TB hospital or an insane asylum set in an old movie, but the price was right and the experience was sublime.

Then after I napped for an hour or so, I got dressed and walked through the wooded park back to my sister's house. A gentle snow was falling on the pine trees and it was very, very quiet.

I don't have a specific type but love massages. I haven't had one in ages.

I asked a male friend if he would give me a back massage without sex about 6 years ago and he refused. Damn!!

I had a male massage therapist a few years ago that stretched my arms and legs until they hurt. He even gave me advice about exercises I needed to do while working out to stay mobile. Sadly, he left. I think he was just too good for Massage Envy.

I freaked out and canceled my membership when I was let go from my company because I thought it was a frivolous cost that I no longer needed. I quickly reinstated it because I now have the time and believe there is a benefit to massage.

I now have a female massage therapist that focuses on knots in various areas that need to be smoothed out. She is "sneaky good" because she doesn't do it in a harsh way, but when she is finished those knots are gone and I have soreness in some areas. That's when I know I've gotten a good massage.

No Rolfing for me either @ jujube, it was far to uncomfortable at the time those years ago.
You Saratoga Springs massage and bath, oh that sounds so wonderful!

a gentle snow falling on the pine trees and quietness after~

I enjoy massages. But they need to be light massage not deep tissue massage which I find painful.
@ Ronni, same for me, deep tissue massage is too deep, and painful for me those times
I had them years ago~

so great won't it ;)

The very first massage I ever had was at a fancy resort hotel in Orlando. Our boss had treated us all to massages there. There was a waiting off the locker area with quiet music playing, flavored waters, all the bells and whistles. They gave you a huge thick terrycloth robe to wear while you were waiting.

The massage rooms were a short walk away, grouped in a circle around a large jacuzzi, with a rather narrow walkway between the jacuzzi and the doors. This fact will become important later.

Great massage. I was absolutely boneless when it was over. So boneless that when I came out of the room, I tripped and fell into the jacuzzi. So now, I had to walk back to the locker room area wearing what felt like 100 pounds of wet terrycloth, leaving a trail of water behind me that a whale could swim in. Embarrassing. Really embarrassing. It was years before I got another one.

Well, I had massage therapy some time ago for the very first time. I wasn't into massage or was very enthusiastic about it. Until somewhat recently, someone I know recommended that I should have it as it helps in reducing my stress in a huge way. I was also experiencing some pain in the back at the time. I had massage therapy at this place. Anyway, I've got to say that this massage therapy was a new experience for me. It's fine I guess.

When I went to acupuncture they also had employees who gave a short massage. It was so nice.

I don't know what happened to the practitioner of that office. I'm not trusting, have body image issues to say the least so I don't know if I could go to a massage. Not to stereotype but I'd probably be the most comfortable with a hippie dippy type person. And definitely a bit older.

I have a co-worker who sometimes gives me a quick back rub. She has the best touch. I have told her to go to massage school. They'd be lining up out the door. It's so good I almost can't stand it.

This lady is amazing and she is very popular on YouTube. A video clip of hers even made it on MTV's Ridiculousness when a cat was hacking up a hairball on the patio outside the window during a massage.
