Ageing can be humbling as well as annoying.
If we have basically good health, we tend to take mobility for granted. I'm very guilty of this, and 9 days of increasing shifting lower back pain sent me to an ER/Urgent Care type place Wednesday. They did a CT scan and i have both compression of some lumbar vertebrae and fractures of the sacral bones (between lumbar and cocyx). But at least i know why it hurts so bad and the pain keeps shifting. Movement shifts the no longer stable bones and different nerves get negatively stimulated each time.

This is not good news, still struggling to get my Rx for pain delivered and make appointment with orthopedist--but at least i know why i feel it so intensely, especially when i stand & walk. Also gratified to know i didn't just turn into delicate flower suddenly, there's just cause for moans, gasps, groans and more.

On the upside, discovered my insurance has affiliation with something called Safe Ride to get to and from medical appointments (have to schedule 2 days ahead), and home if when discharged from a facility.

Friday: Had trouble getting the pain Rx, long story, so today am actually in hospital. Wow have they gotten a lot of cool toys since my last stay some 20 yrs ago!! Tired but charge nurse will be back to over more stuff so just going to relax, maybe play a video game.

Talk to y'all tomorrow.

Has there been any progress, feywon?
Still didn't have meds by Friday morning so came to hospital (not just urgent care type). Admitted. They are being good to me tho like any large institution/organization there are some procedural and communication issues.Have had an X-Ray and another CT (positioning to get very painful). Orthopedist should come today with treatment plan.

Very sorry to hear you are (preferably were) suffering. You are in my thoughts now. Hope you have a daughter near.
Surgery (putting a slender pin horizontally across sacral region) fixed what I felt would be the biggest roadblock to recovery of mobility. Have long road ahead. Making progress moving around. Rehab ahead. Probably will need walker when leave rehab.

Unfortunately, daughter works 14 nine hour shifts(3 nights 1 weekend, 4 the next) a month doesn't drive and we have animals so she has to be home every night. But we communicate on messenger daily and she sends me photos of our critters. My male tabby, who usually sleeps on my lap, actually climbed up on her to cuddle after a couple of days ago.

And each of my Tabbies has cuddled in a cat bed with her Tuxedo cat, a new behavior tho we've had the beds for months. Suspect my absence confusing or them.

Did the pin already go in or is there a date for it? Glad the four leg'ers are handling your abduction well. Is your daughter in a medical field?

It doesn't compare to what you're going through but my wife, Lia, will get the other knee replaced this Thursday. Of course I'll worry anyhow but these operations are almost as routine as getting our tonsils out had been when I was a young kid. Of course to be routine one's health needs to start out pretty normal and hers is not.

This time I will encourage her to come home after as soon as possible. Last time she stayed over a couple extra nights after the surgery. Now we realize that while your near help it is actually very hard to get any and you spend so much time waiting and putting up with noise and light at night. I'll bet you're pretty good at acquiescing to what can't be changed as I am. But Lia is a worrier and is often in panic mode.

Hang in there and I hope you get through it well and as quickly as can be.

I'm sorry you had to go through this Feywon, but glad you are making progress and on the road to healing. Too bad your daughter has to work so much but good that you two are working it out. How sweet that she sends you photos of your animals. I'm sure your cat is quite confused. My son told me that when I'm not here, Deja doesn't even eat like she should. She did climb up next to him though once when I was on vacation. He sent me a picture. I also have him Facetime me so I can see her and she can hear me.

Praying you'll be able to go home sooner than you expect. Heal well my dear friend.

Oh my goodness.. how did I miss this (((feywon))).... ugggh 😩...I know the pain only too well in the lower lumbar region, having gone through several surgeries with mine.... I absolutely know the full extent of the agonising pain....

Well I hope they start by giving you enough meds to at least help you move around that's so important, and then everything else with regard to the healing can happen from there...

Pin went in last Friday and removed worst of pain. Regaining mobility quickly, Walking with walker able to sit up. Now waiting for Ins to approve rehab. Staff happily amazed at progress. I was so restricted by the pain till surgery, and drugs they gave for the pain had me loopy. Glad to only need tylenol for pain now.

Thank you, i thought about you because i thought i remembered you mentioning your injuries. Worst of it was in Sacral region, just below lumbar. Movement of legs caused stabbing pain in crotch area. But woke up in recovery with that gone.
