May is motorcycle safety month

Every month should be motorcycle safety month! I remember when years ago, my Honorary Son #1 told me his bike flipped right around the corner of my house and he wound up on the ground. That is a very busy street, so luckily he didn't cause a serious accident or get hit by oncoming traffic. I told him if I'd been passing by and saw him, I probably would have had a heart attack. He wound up getting rid of the bike.

In 1988, Gary Busey was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident. He chose not to wear a helmet. In June 2023, Treat Williams was killed while riding his motorcycle, but he apparently was not at fault and he was wearing his helmet.

@PeppermintPatty Love that sharp bike you posted but you couldn't get me to ride on it.

I remember these type of short but graphic Public Information Films on British TV -- slipped in between commercials. Deliberately made to hit home, during prime time TV:

And this type of thing if you were a lowly pedestrian:

🏍️ I love all of your pictures and videos. 🏍️
Great thread @squatting dog.

We used to own a least one or two motorcycles that we rode. I loved it.
It has been a long time since I have been on one.

Some motorist are courteous, some are not, and some just hated us,
I understand blind spots when driving a car but gee whiz how can you Not hear a motorcycle!

I know 3 people who have died in motorcycle accidents, a few others who were badly injured.

🏍️ Please be careful when you ride 🏍️

I had two bikes. A Suzuki 400 and a Kawasaki Ninja. The Suzuki I road half way across Canada and up through the mountains of British Columbia. I loved my bkes. My husband made me get rid of them cause it scared him too much so I gave my Ninji to my best friend. He still has it to this day.

My brother was killed in a motorcycle accident! The person riding with him was not .
I'm so sorry about your brother Patty. I can see why your husband made you get rid of your bikes. I like to see you safe and sound too. Though I admit the few times I was on the back of a bike it was sometimes a bit scary but so much fun. I hope you don't miss your bikes too much.

Thanks Delia,
It’s probably good that I got rid of my bike. I was a bit of a speed demon. Screaming down a nicely paved road was one of my favourite things to do. I craved the rush I felt. It was only a matter of time when I’d be in an accident. I don’t miss it THAT much. If roles were reversed and it was my husband wanting to drive a motorcycle, I’d feel the same way. The difference being, he’s a very safe driver.

I understand how your husband must've felt. Is the picture you posted one of your bikes? How generous of you to give it to your friend.
