Maybe true, Maybe not

Unfortunately, here in the US anyway, there are some areas where the life of any known gay person—hell, even atheists, environmentalists, childless-by-choice, college graduates even!—becomes a living hell; I’ve seen it with my own eyes.
what now ?..in 2024 ?

Well, I don't have "a lot" of money (whatever that means), but I still don't believe that money is everything. I feel sorry for anyone who believes that it is.

Let's say you have a child or grandchild that you love more than life itself. There is nothing more precious in the entire universe to you. And then someone offers you an infinite sum of money to deliberately harm that child. Would you do it?

If your answer is, "Of course not," as I imagine any sane person's answer would be, there's the response to those who believe that money is everything. It doesn't matter whether you have a lot or a little; what matters is what is more precious to you.

True. In some cases, a murderous envy in reference to some academic accomplishment can be a strong motivator for the persecution.

I would, and have done on a few occasions ... can't do it now..age and aching bones don't allow it.. but very often when I'm abroad, I'm still sorely tempted to climb...
Which is the most dangerous and highest mountain you have climbed?

It's like the joke about the old man who sidled up to a pretty young thing at a party and asked her, "Would you sleep with me for a million dollars? "

She thinks for a minute and says, "Yes, a million is a lot of money and I could do a lot with that."

Then he asks, "Would you sleep with me for half a million?"

"Well," she ponders, "That's still a lot and I could pay off my college loan and still buy a condo."

"Ok," he says, "how about a hundred thousand."

She thinks for awhile and replies, "Yeah, I'd do that."

"What about $50?"

She jumps to her feet and shrieks, "$50? WHAT DO YOU THINK I AM?"

"Oh, Sweetie," smirks the old guy, " We already know what you are. We're just haggling about the price."

I have to agree. The idea that we abolished prejudice, bias, and utter hatred years ago is false. We've just made it "PC" to voice that in public. It's still hard no to see a Black male as anything other than a craven drug lord, a Latino as an "illegal", and a gay as a child molester.

Very impressive! Also, Thanks for familiarizing me with this very prominent European geographical location.

The most popular climbing route to the summit of Mont Blanc is the Goûter Route, which typically takes two days. The first woman to reach the summit was Marie Paradis in 1808. January 1893, a temperature of −43 °C (−45 °F) was recorded on Mont Blanc, being the lowest ever recorded there.

I suppose there are communities where the above is true. However, I doubt they are that common. Though I‘m sure they make the news more often than a community that is not so nasty and prejudiced.

IMO bias of all types is alive in America.

It may have been silenced or driven underground but it’s there and is beginning to bubble up more often with the anonymity of social media, the internet, etc…

I’m not sure it is something that will ever go away.

We all hear the voices, it’s how we choose to manage those voices that matters.

even on the internet , social media etc.. the police will hunt you down more for racism comments than if you'd stolen a car or burgled a house.. that's how seriously it's taken here

I once drove over the Mountain in deep winter... and ultimately through the Mont Blanc tunnel at Chamonix in France ..the tunnel links France and Italy....the tunnel is a Toll charge.. and is almost 8 miles long. Going through the tunnel in winter ..deeep ice and snow.. the windscreen becomes clear and warm.. so nothing prepares you for leaving the tunnel on the Italian side.. and so high up and the sudden blindness of ice on the windscreen. The roads are better out of the tunnel today than back in 1989 when I drove through.. the roads were very sharp hairpin going down on the Italian side of the mountain.. and didn't level out until reaching the Ski resort town of Courmayeur in Northern Italy...

I have lived the last 30 years with the vision of the many Huge Juggernauts which had driven off the side of the mountain in front of us due to the ice.. and they were like giant scattered bodies strewn into the tree tops on either side of the mountain as we desperately tried to keep our vehicle from meeting the same fate as it slid down the mountain for much of the way... No Winter tyres in Europe..

Yep! Racism remains a very deeply culturally-ingrained characteristic here in the USA.
I agree. What we have now is lip service. I live in an area that had a gated Nazi compound, complete with a swastika flag and guard house. Ya know those flags carried by the people , who broke into the US Capital? Some of my neighbors are flying them now. I believe there's a huge backlash of people opposed to Civil Rights, Women's Rights, and Gay Rights. All it would take is one word from someone in authority, and it could be all gone. The Blacks would be back in their place, women would be in the kitchen, and gay bashing would be a Sunday sport.

I met someone who worked kind of high up in government of a city about 30 min away from here and she told me that the rumors about there being an active KKK chapter in that town were true.

It reminds me of the time that my dad was begrudgingly driving us up this narrow road towards a camping site near the Adirondack Mountains in New York State. The road was slowly getting steeper and the car was gradually slowing down the steeper it got. To our right was this drop towards treetops and a rushing stream. Last thing he said as the car slowed almost to a stop as he shifted to second gear was:

"I only have one gear left. If that one fails, we are going backwards.

LOL!
