[h=1]McConnell tells other countries not to trust Obama when it comes to combating climate change[/h]In an effort to undermine international negotiations aimed at combating climate change, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is telling other countries not to trust President Obama’s promise to significantly reduce the United States’ carbon emissions.

In a statement released Tuesday, McConnell warned other countries to “proceed with caution” before pledging any carbon emissions reductions to the United Nations, saying the U.S. would likely not be able to meet its own climate goals. The statement came shortly after Obama announced the official U.S. plan to slash the United States’ greenhouse gas emissions as much as 28 percent as part of an international agreement brokered by the U.N.

“Even if the job-killing and likely illegal Clean Power Plan were fully implemented, the United States could not meet the targets laid out in this proposed new plan,” McConnell said, adding that “Our international partners should proceed with caution before entering into a binding, unattainable deal.”

The Majority Leader’s tactic is similar to a recent and slightly more aggressive effort by Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) to undermine international negotiations with Iran over its nuclear program. Earlier this month, Cotton and 46 other Republican senators wrote a letter to the Iranian government warning that it should not trust any deal it strikes with the United States and its international partners, saying that the deal likely would not last past the Obama administration.

I don't see how republican politicians can possibly do any worse than this. McConnell (R) Kentucky is an enemy of our country.

Isn't there some sort of "treason" law these guys can be sent to prison for?

I would think that there should be some kind of consequences for this. Certainly they can speak out publicly expressing whatever views they wish, but I would think that as members of our governing body, directly addressing other nations to sow distrust, and undermine the foreign policy of the elected president would be a no no.

Our elected President is not the one we have elected to make Congress's decisions. The President is just the guiding light and inspireor, not the the decision maker. The President does have the power to not sign a decision or to reject a decision. That is about all I can think of. Many of our previous presidents ideas can be changed, ignored, or tossed later if it has not been blessed by our Congress. To me this is a good system. To have a President to act as a dictator is not what was intended when our Constitution was created.

Not sure what you are speaking of I hope it was the letter to Iran. It was just that, as I understand the event, it was just a letter from some in our Congress to the Iranian government. A good will thought of sorts. It was not any official notice or declaration.

Mitch McConnell, one of the bigger fools in DC. It's kind of embarrassing to know that this man is a US senator. A total tool of big business and special interests.

This type of answer is common from the Democrat side of folks. The same point as yours was is common from the Republican side with Democrat names. That covers about 60% (30% R & 30% D) of us and the remaining 40% would be independents and other political party members. So no real facts will be known till after the elections are over and a majority blend of all decide who to follow.

Side note: Its not just republicans that are in the lobbyists backpockets. Its a lot of democrats, as well. Yes, I am a democrat, and I support that socialist, Bernie Sanders, and proud of him and what he stands for. Send in some pocket money to help him with his campaign.

Totally agree on both your points. Most of our fine, elected representatives are there to serve themselves, not the voters. And yes, Sanders is looking more and more attractive as a candidate.

I agree. McConnell is a "dufus". I hope we can do some house (and senate) cleaning when reelection time rolls around. I am sick of lobbyists running the show.

There is a very good possibility that the Democrats will regain control of the Senate.. BUT the winning back the House is doubtful with all the Gerrymandering that took place after the last census.. Too many of those nutjobs have been locked into safe districts with this trick.

and Yes.. I agree that there are Democrats in lobbyist pockets too.. but of the two parties, the Dems are more likely to have the interests of the middle class in mind. What we need to do is get rid of the Citizens United ruling by Constitutional amendment if necessary. The only way to stop the top 1% from running the country is to get money out of politics by an amendment.
