Medication advertisements on television

Who tells their doc they want to be prescribed a medication they have seen advertised on television? They are getting more frequent and the list of side effects goes on and on and on. Everyone's medical history is different and just because you saw it advertised doesn't mean it is the right medication for you. the worst one is the dancing Jardiance commercial.

I have type 2 diabetes, but I manage it well
It’s a little pill with a big story to tell🎶

From what I understand it IS more common than you might think. That's why there are so many ads.

Some of these ads are tasteless, offensive. Patients dancing and loving life with a disease is insensitive, even cruel.
and erroneous. I will never suggest a med because I saw the commercial, but my doc prescribed one or two
before I saw the ads. Same with dental conditions. Happy faces with cavities.
Reminds me of those who laugh at other people's problems.

But I love the list of side effects after they promote the drug.

May cause you to bleed out of your eyes.

May cause you to jump off of a Skyscraper.

May cause you to spontaneously break dance in the nude.

May cause blindness and loud Rap singing.

And on...and on...

After we see how happy and healthy the actors are, apparently because they've taken the drugs, we hear the voice over speed up and the side effects begin: do not take this if you are allergic to it if you have tested positive for TB or have an infection, may cause dizziness, diarrhea, migraines, rashes, blindness, muscle pain, shortness of breath, angio edema or death.

Never have I asked doctor for any med on tv. In some countries these type of ads are forbidden. In the states they never stop. Luckily I always MUTE commercial of any kind.

As far as I'm aware, only two 'developed' countries allow direct to consumer advertising of prescription drugs. The U.S & New Zealand? This type of thing is not allowed under UK law.

They should stop these commercials like they did cigarette commercials. And I agree 1000% about this one. The ones that bug me go something like "Got HIV? This drug will cover that up. Because undetectable is uninfected!"

I intend to ask my neurologist about Austedo and/or Ingrezza to stop my intense shaking. Saw their adverts on TV. Can't stand the shaking anymore, it's making me frantic. It's up to doctor to know which meds work, not me. I'll take whatever he prescribes. Not up to me to decide that either.

Hate Jardiance theme song. Have you noticed they keep the same song, but change the actors?

I guess I have the ability to zone out during commercials so can't say one type bothers me any more than another.

I will say if I saw something advertised that I thought would benefit me I would have no hesitation telling the doctor I want to try it. A doctor can't keep up on every new drug that hits the market, someone needs to bring it to their attention, might as well be the consumer.

yah, they changed it to be all inclusive of every type of human that walks the earth. what a wonderful time to be alive and also have diabetes.

Er... Jardiance is not for diabetes.
well i guess i just so caught up in the excitement of this wonder drug, and not listening carefully enough to the song, but when i googled it, this is what came up: "Jardiance is a tablet for type 2 diabetes, heart failure, and chronic kidney disease. It works by increasing glucose excretion in urine and improving heart function...

I don't mind the drug advertisements except for the false price advertising (they say it won't cost more than a small amount but then it has conditions that apparently exclude people on Medicare).
I'm not happy about gambling ads, they have quite large 'small print' about the number to call for gambling addiction, which makes it seem like maybe they shouldn't be promoting doing it if it is that risky.

I stand corrected. My doctors didn't recommend it in my case, so maybe situations differ.
