Medication advertisements on television

Who tells their doc they want to be prescribed a medication they have seen advertised on television? They are getting more frequent and the list of side effects goes on and on and on. Everyone's medical history is different and just because you saw it advertised doesn't mean it is the right medication for you. the worst one is the dancing Jardiance commercial.

I have type 2 diabetes, but I manage it well
It’s a little pill with a big story to tell🎶

From what I understand it IS more common than you might think. That's why there are so many ads.

Some of these ads are tasteless, offensive. Patients dancing and loving life with a disease is insensitive, even cruel.
and erroneous. I will never suggest a med because I saw the commercial, but my doc prescribed one or two
before I saw the ads. Same with dental conditions. Happy faces with cavities.
Reminds me of those who laugh at other people's problems.

But I love the list of side effects after they promote the drug.

May cause you to bleed out of your eyes.

May cause you to jump off of a Skyscraper.

May cause you to spontaneously break dance in the nude.

May cause blindness and loud Rap singing.

And on...and on...

After we see how happy and healthy the actors are, apparently because they've taken the drugs, we hear the voice over speed up and the side effects begin: do not take this if you are allergic to it if you have tested positive for TB or have an infection, may cause dizziness, diarrhea, migraines, rashes, blindness, muscle pain, shortness of breath, angio edema or death.

Never have I asked doctor for any med on tv. In some countries these type of ads are forbidden. In the states they never stop. Luckily I always MUTE commercial of any kind.

As far as I'm aware, only two 'developed' countries allow direct to consumer advertising of prescription drugs. The U.S & New Zealand? This type of thing is not allowed under UK law.

They should stop these commercials like they did cigarette commercials. And I agree 1000% about this one. The ones that bug me go something like "Got HIV? This drug will cover that up. Because undetectable is uninfected!"
