Menendez Brothers Sentence changed to offer parole

Well, I suppose you're right , but it [too me] means extra insurance in getting their way . Or they planned for the multiple shots to display as you propose.

As a nation, IMO we need to get away from any leniency concerning convicted criminals . Crime is out of control, and getting worse.

I am not suggesting that these two should be held accountable for anyone else's crime. But I do say that they should serve the full punishment handed by the court ..... for their crime. Their reason really doesn't matter, if we allow consideration for what they say happened, that opens a door for [revenge] killings .. is that something we really want ?

Notice that I did not say "the sentence was imposed only to protect society", those were your words. Punishment? so far they have been in prison for 35 years. What do I think about punishment? Punishment is the hardest parameter to reckon with, in the Justice System. Some people are punished enough when the shear horror of their own actions affects them deep down. Other people can never be punished enough, because they just are not remorseful or even owning up to their crime.
I don't know where the Menendez brothers stand, I can't see inside their heads. I have heard that they have behaved themselves while in prison, but that's largely a survival thing and not necessarily a ploy for freedom.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong: it has not been conclusively established that the brother's were in fact sexually abused. After reading about the new evidence- the letter, I'm unsure of it's veracity.

What about the letters the brother(s) wrote to their cousins about being abused. Couldn't those be authenticated as old letters. They were not admitted into evidence from what I heard. Why not? So that was a miscarriage of justice right there. Also a member of a very popular boy band at the time came forward and said Menendez's father sexually abused him. So doesn't that lead one to think the abuse allegations are true.

Also why would the sister of Kitty Menendez be so adamant that her nephews were failed by their own mother and the family. Why is the entire family behind them now? The maternal aunt obviously believes the allegations. Also, she may know something but kept quiet. Menendez was very powerful and allegedly threatened the boys.. Perhaps he threatened his wife, her family and the boy band member too. Look how many secrets are coming out now about powerful movie and record executives who were disgusting sexual predators for decades.

This may sound cold hearted, but for very, very personal reasons that I won't go into right now, I feel sexual predators deserve whatever they get.

See Nathan, the problem here is you approach things with great consideration of the facts before determining what the outcome should be. This is the way our justice system is supposed to work, but sometimes it’s based on the consensus of the people.

I can’t disagree with anything you wrote, but I am glad I am not the one that will make the final decision whether to release these men or not. It doesn’t matter what the decision will be, there will be a lot of unhappy people either way. Personally, I doubt if they will be a recidivist.

The only thing I would add and only because you mentioned it is “Did these men show any remorse?” Probably not. It was only a day after the murders these men were out buying Rolexes, sports cars, high end clothing, real estate and tennis lessons from a pro. And, the killings were premeditated.

You know better than I as to what goes on in prisons between cell mates. It seems that the majority of prisoners find God and suddenly are remorseful by showing the juries or parole boards tears.

The California Evidence Code lists means of Authentication of writings. It the evidence was not admissable by the court, that was certainly an assignment of error on appeal, which did not work on appeal, which Im sure it was raised.

Not when it is only here-say. Proven murders however should indeed suffer what ever they get.
