I do not normally do long posts, but I can't shorten this one.
This is in follow up to my previous post #43 from April 20th in this thread, when I stated I did not have the "RECALL" feature on my Windows 11 laptop.
Today, I installed Windows 11 update: "2025-05 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 24H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5058411)" If you're on Windows 11, and haven't yet received this update, you will, because it's mandatory.
"Microsoft", "Bleeping Computer", "Windows Latest", and a host of other tech sites say that update KB5058411 will automatically install "RECALL." I also found this elsewhere: "A persistent Recall icon on the task bar will indicate that the feature is running. This icon cannot be hidden or removed if Recall is active."
After today's update and restart, I have no Recall icon on the task bar, and I've searched my system every possible way, and find no trace of "RECALL" the Start button, Apps, or elsewhere, so there is no action I can take, which seems strange, considering all sources say it would install with today's update.
[Contrary to what one source said (that I would be offered the option of "RECALL" during the update) I was not offered any option at any point during or after the update.]
If you get the update, and it installs "RECALL" and you don't want it, THIS SITE tells how to disable it. The instructions show 2 ways: 1) Group Policy Editor, and 2) modifying the Registry. Group Policy Editor is unavailable on the Home Edition, so if that's what you're running, you would need to modify the Registry. [Be sure you understand the risks of Registry modifications before proceeding.]
