Migraines

I thought I'd pass this on to any migraine sufferers here.

My daughter has been having debilitating migraines since she was four on an almost daily basis sometimes and she has had only one in the past six weeks all due to getting an upper cervical adjustment from a chiropractic specialist. Very gentle, no 'neck cracking', no pain....and like I said, now, no migraines. The change has been so dramatic that she's a believer now.

Glad to hear about your daughter Debby, migraines are horrible, I can't even imagine a child suffering with them.

That's very good news Debby, my younger daughter suffers from them from time to time, has since childhood, its in the family as my mother had them daily and I used to have them at odd times, but they have stopped for some time now. I believe in Chiropracty too, though I guess it wouldn't work for all migraine sufferers?

Thank you to all of you for your expressions of sympathy for her. While once upon a time I was somewhat skeptical and nervous also about chiropractic treatments, I'm also open to new ideas so I'm now a believer. So folks, if you or anyone you love is suffering from issues that doctors don't seem to be able to relieve, perhaps that kind of treatment might be something that would be worth considering. Hope you are all having a good day wherever you are!

Terrific! I had migraines from age twelves until I was forty-four years old. They just quit.

I haven't had migraine problems, but here's a natural treatment that may work for some people.

Safer than using prescription medication for migraine headaches, you can try lavender essential oil...

Quote:
In 2012, for the first time, a placebo-controlled clinical trial confirmed that lavender essential oil aromatherapy is effective in relieving migraine headaches. The study was conducted by the Department of Neurology, School of Medicine, Mashad University of Medical Sciences, Mashad, Iran.

The trial included 47 participants diagnosed with migraines who were randomly assigned to one of two groups. One group of migraine sufferers was instructed to apply "two to three drops of lavender essential oil onto their upper lip and inhale its vapor for a 15-min period, then score the severity of their headache for the next two hours."

The control group followed the exact same protocol, but, instead of lavender essential oil, they rubbed drops of liquid wax on their upper lip. No other interventions were allowed.

The lavender group not only reported a 74% improvement in the severity of their symptoms, they also reported significantly fewer migraines than the placebo group. In other words, lavender helped migraine sufferers about three quarters of the time.

The researchers concluded that the inhalation of lavender essential oil may be a safe and effective treatment for acute migraine headache management. Although this was a small study and claims that more studies need to be done, others have been done.

Lavender essential oil has been demonstrated in other scientific studies to have analgesic (pain-killing) properties, nervine properties (calming nerves), sedative properties for mood and anxiety disorders, and spasmolytic reduction properties (relieving spasms or convulsions) in addition to being antihypertensive (dilates blood vessels). I use a chiropractor a lot for back/neck issues (and headaches from the neck stuff). Being on a computer all day for most of my work life brought neck/wrist and back issues. I get good relief from the chiropractor, and also from occasional acupuncture. I find acupuncture incredibly relaxing.

When I saw this post I was going to immediately suggest a chiropractor. I am so glad there has been relief for your daughter.
I was a 5 year sufferer of horrible migraines they would last up to 3 days straight and some times 5 times a month. SO bad they kept me awake at nights. Every doctor's visit was another prescription for a different pill that only worked if I caught the migraine before I felt it. I had no infamous aura, or warning. I usually woke up with them. My husband kept telling me to get to his Chiropractor and he was relentless until finally I gave in. Well bless his heart, I now rarely get them, and when they come they are far less painful and last maybe a day. I go regularly to see my chiropractor because there is no exercise I can do for migraine prevention. He has also been amazing with relief of my hernia, shoulder and neck injury from 20 years ago, as well has speeding up my recovery from a recent cycling accident. He is brilliant. Changed my life.

My daughter has also been helped tremendously by seeing a chiropractor that specializes in the neck fishfulthinking!
