Love it! My late mother-in-law was always dismissive about leather miniskirts. "All credit cards and no knickers," was her put down.

About the so called sexy argument. It does seem that word has divulged into various meanings. You hear of advertisers using it for their product even when there's no model in the advert, indeed, even when the advert has nothing to do with apparel. Why can't we just say: "Looking good?"

This cheeky saying is popular in Liverpool - its implication refers to someone who perhaps is a bit of a show-off but underneath has no substance - all tongue.

It begs the question where did one go to see ladies of the night wear white shoes???? Certainly not in the UK....

I have worn white shoes and I can tell you I come from a very classy background.
In addition.... I was a shoe model for high end Italian shoes on Italian TV. I was not only allowed to keep all the shoes I modelled, I was given an allowance to buy shoes from the manufacturers.
After all these years, whenever I return to Italy I can obtain a pair of classy high end shoes.

Relax, Jamala. I was repeating what some people thought about white heels in the 1950's, nothing to do with today.

LOL, never seen a woman's legs or shaking I didn't enjoy. Age isn't so important, guess I like mutton as well as lamb.
 
Here’s a more modern take on the mini skirt/go-go boots/cage dancer theme. I can think of a thousand bad movies that could be titled from something like this, such as Disco Inferno Kittens, or She Go-Go’s to Prison… 😸

I think what it comes down to is your MIL felt extremely confident in what she was wearing so she rocked it. I don't see anything wrong with that at all. I'd much rather go out feeling confident about myself than not. So yeah, I choose to try my best to look good when I go out.

What my Mother-in-Law actually said was: "Provident Cheques & No Knickers." You had to be British and have a very long memory to know that the man from The Provi knocked on the door every Friday evening. As The Provident was a type of credit and therefore a forerunner to credit cards I took a little poetic licence rather than go twice round the houses explaining what The Provident was all about.
"Fur Coat & No Knickers was a hilarious farce by Mike Harding, it premiered round about 1980.

I was born in 1963 .... don't care what was worn in the 1950s. However, did some research and found out white shoes have never lost their popularity in Britain and found there were no adverse connotations regarding them. Most brides wear white shoes. Maybe it's different in your neck of the woods.

I remember provident cheques very well... it was the only way my mother could afford to buy school uniform...for us...

Of course the saying ''all fur coat and no knickers'', pre-dates 1980.. by many years..my mother used to say it often..

You know, I was being somewhat comical - but not really.

What I mean is, sure, I think say, a 60 year old woman probably shouldn't be walking the street ""dressed like a slut". I get it. Hey, even for family gatherings, it's not appropriate. But in the, erm, bedroom...... we know we're old. We know we're "passed it" in many ways, but that doesn't diminish our sense of fun.

I'm as far from an Adonis as you can get. My 18 year old self was, well, more action. But I don't forget the days I was more fruitful, and the fun doesn't need to stop. As long as no harm is done, it's all good.
