Missing Teen Boaters In Florida, Allowed Out On Ocean Alone.

Two teenage boy boaters who have been missing for several days have been boating all of their lives but many still questions should they have been allowed on the ocean alone. They found a capsized boat but not the boys.

Some say it's survival skills that matter and not boating skill or experience. Also have these boys experienced and made it through a crisis.

Side note but I remember my first diving course where I had a bad day in pool several classes in with a new mask, seemed like I was constantly clearing it. I mumbled to the instructor not a good day today. He said I'm not the one he is worried about it's the ones that didn't have any trouble yet because he doesn't know how they would react under stress ie with a problem underwater. These kids might have a lot of experience, be good at it etc but have they experienced live threatening stress or experience severe problems as a boater and how did they fair.

Search isn't over yet so hopefully they are found.

It seems to me that there should have been an adult present. Hopefully these boys had life jackets on, although that may not save their lives. Did they have any kind of emergency communication with them, a radio or cell phone? I hope for the best for them, but it certainly doesn't look good. :(
 
I think they were a bit young to be offshore, regardless of their training. I hope they're found.
 

Yes, my thought too was how young they were to be out on the ocean alone. Too young. Very sad if they have perished.
 
This is very sad and my first reaction is that they were too young to be out in the ocean without an adult present ,no matter how much experience they have. Did they have something to attract attention to a problem they were having. I pray they find them safe,but each hour that passes makes me wonder if they will find them OK.
 
I feel sad for the parents. They do have to show some sort of trust and such sometime in those kids lives.

I once lived in south Florida and there are canals, and boats, alligators, snakes, every where you look. More than once my grade school aged son would go visit a friend that had a power boat. Then the first I knew about it would be when he got home and told of their adventures. One really concerned me when he described going to the next town south by using the canals.

No, this is not the exact same as going to sea in a seaworthy fishing boat. Just trying to relate what happens when kids start to venture. How about the young kids in farm land areas that get sent out into the fields with a tractor and told to plow some field or to mow some hay or whatever they are told to do. They are doing some rather dangerous things. I knew of some that did just that. Very dangerous work, but I know that they did grow up and have kids of their own.

These Florida kids and their parents were working on the path of growing up together. I hope for all that the best will come true.
