Mississipi Men Charged with Shooting at a Black Fedex Delivery Driver

It appears that the problem was that, although the Black man (Gibson) was making a delivery for FedEx, the truck he was driving did not have FedEx markings:

The van Gibson was driving was a Hertz rental van that had two large Hertz stickers on the back, Gibson said. Gibson's attorney, Carlos E. Moore, told CNN that Gibson was wearing a FedEx jacket, shirt and pants but the vehicle had no FedEx markings.

As well:

When he called police to report the shooting, he says he was told by the dispatcher that they had just received a call about a suspicious person at the same address.

Well, I'd have to assume more, which isn't in the article. For example, one can probably get hold of a FedEx uniform, but maybe a FedEx truck is not so easy. But these are just surmises.

Regardless, no reason to start shooting into vehicles, from the street in a residential area. That's just insane. Do you think for a second, if the driver was white, that this would have happened? I think not. Mike

True enough. I'm not arguing that they were right (hardly). The thing is, reading the article, it says:

When he called police to report the shooting, he says he was told by the dispatcher that they had just received a call about a suspicious person at the same address.
So there was apparently some misunderstanding there. A guy in a FedEx uniform but no FedEx truck ... well, etc.

It makes no difference what type of vehicle Gibson was driving. Shooting into an occupied vehicle is attempted murder & being "suspicious" about someone is no justification under ANY circumstance. And no one is obligated to stop their vehicle when a non officer orders a driver to stop. I wouldn't.
These two pro-abortion arguments belong in the cell next to the other three who were recently convicted.

The way he was treated at the police department is telling:

Gibson said one officer incorrectly repeated his statement back to him three or four times before finally getting it right. The second officer told Gibson he was going to play "devil's advocate" and asked Gibson, "Did you do anything to make them think you were suspicious?"

Gibson said, "That was a slap in the face to me." Gibson said the third officer got him to write his own statement and then took Gibson to the crime scene, where the officer asked whether he wanted to look for bullet fragments. Gibson said he did, but they didn't find any.

Phew.

Uh, yeah. Former Los Angeles Police Detective Mark Fuhrman described it very clearly during the OJ Simpson trial.
He said, "We always pulled over black motorists for DWB - Driving While Black."

Yep. Years ago, my extremely talented Beverly Hills hairdresser got pulled over by the police while driving his convertible Mercedes out by the beach because he looked like he could be black.

And, years ago, an attorney friend parked his Porsche in front of his own house, and the police came because it was in East Los Angeles — a generally Mexican area. I guess they couldn't believe he could have owned the car. I guess you could call him Mexican-American, although he just looked American to me.

And, one of my brothers-in-law, a very dear man, is black.

Where I live, Fed Ex uses their own branded trucks and rental trucks. The rental trucks come from Missouri, the Fed Ex branded vehicles come from Nebraska, and it's not uncommon to see them both in town on the same day. Drivers all wear a uniform.

Fed Ex bears a tiny portion of responsibility for not having signage on the trucks that indicated FedEx leased vehicle. A minimum action to protect their employees, even if they are in fact, independent sub contractors. Rural postal carriers use their own vehicles are supposed to have signage on them that indicate they're letter carriers. Simple enough fix and would limit any liability on the their part.

My biased opinion:
People always go on about their rights, but what about the responsibilities that come with those rights? I guess that's what the world becomes when grown ups are no longer in charge.

So ......... It's OK for you to use the term Redneck when referring to, two white guys ?

Yes. And I imagine these two wear the moniker with great pride. They may even know how to spell it.

I did a quick search for their address, didn't find it and will look later after work. The driver described the area as a large lot with two homes and also stated that there are places black drivers are afraid to go. My guess is they live in a semi rural area on the outskirts of town in dilapidated trailers. Fed Ex made him do the same route the next day!

In my area, when I purchase something online, I never know who will deliver it or what vehicle will arrive with it. They will use the least expensive delivery option & that means any vehicle - marked or unmarked. In this incident, the type of vehicle is completely irrelevant. Regardless of the vehicle, NO ONE is allowed (legally or morally) to try to stop a vehicle & use deadly force because they are "suspicious."
Even if someone is POSITIVE that a burglar is escaping, shooting would never be justified.
In this incident, two dirtbags were using their racism as an excuse to try to justify what they did, & they will surely pay with years in prison where they will likely make some new friends.

None of that matters .... fair is fair, and if white guys can be Rednecks when they do wrong ? Then black guys can be ******s when they commit crimes & do wrong as well.

Hell they wear that moniker with pride among themselves .

Stop "theying" when using the N slur. Bring it right down to real people here. Black thugs, hip hop culture may use it, but do you see @OneEyedDiva using it, would you say it in her presence?

Think outside of race. It's socioeconomic status. Thugs of all races/ethnicities tend to use slurs freely. An educated, professional woman like @OneEyedDiva ....I'm betting... hates to hear the N slur in any context, even in music. But you could call me a redneck and I'd post the Bellamy Brother's Redneck Girl video.

The two words in no way carry the same connotation. If you were too ignorant to have known it before, you're not too old to learn it now.

LOL - the cretin on the right is already wearing the appropriate-color shirt - maybe from a previous incarceration.

I don't care if the delivery man was wearing a black jumpsuit and a ski mask, you can't shoot people for being suspicious. Some woman once called the police on my son while he was out for a walk on the country road past her house. She thought he was "suspicious" because she said her dogs were barking louder than usual.

There is a lot more to this story if you read all the details.
I don't think the shooters will be in any trouble when all is said and done.
The "Fed Ex" driver is in trouble.
why ?... I've read the story on several media outlets including the UK media.. and I can't find anything that says the Driver was the instigator ..so can you explain why you believe the shooters are innocent ?
