Misunderstanding at the dentists's

One pet peeve of mine is the practice of charging medical and dental patients for parking, whether in the garage or outside in the parking lot. I think that's outrageous! It seems to mainly be done only in the medical office buildings in the more affluent areas (surprise, surprise) and they usually charge by the hour. It's not a fortune, usually about $4-5 for the first hour, then adding on for each additional hour. Maximum is usually around $12, I know that's a lot less than parking for a baseball game, but baseball games are optional; doctors aren't.

Is there a tool booth at the entrance to the parking lot? Here, you usually only find that at large hospitals. I've yet to see a parking fee at a private physician's office.

When I went to the ER when I had my retinal detachment, I arrived at 7 am. With all the fol-de-rol, I didn't get out of the lot until 6 pm. The man at the tool booth just waved me through, so I parked all day for free.
