The body of missing college student Mollie Tibbetts was found Tuesday, her father and two sources told Fox News, bringing an end to an intensive search that lasted more than a month and captured national headlines.
A law enforcement source told Fox News the body was found in Iowa, but more specific details about the location were not released. Tibbett's father, Rob Tibbetts, confirmed the body was his daughter.
Greg Willey, the vice president of Crime Stoppers of Central Iowa, also told the Associated Press the body found Tuesday is believed to be Tibbetts.

Wonder what happened this time as to how/why she died? This "Missing Person" thing, then later being found dead, is happening more and more often.

My heart sank when I heard this news this morning. I've been following this case since day one.

Makes me so angry that someone took her life away from her.

Her father just flew back to California the other day, and now is on his way back to Iowa. What a difficult trip back for him and for all the family and friends.

Very sad that she was found dead, but at least the family has some closure, rest in peace...sympathy to the family. :(

CR, unfortunately, people disappear every single day, some are never even reported missing, never investigated and many others are never found. The News just picks up on the very few they think the public might be interested in.

On any given day, about 90,000 people are classified as "Missing", in the U.S. As RadishRose says, only a small fraction of these incidents every make the news, and many, for whatever reason, are never found.

I read this just a bit earlier...

There are as many as 100,000 active missing persons cases in the U.S. at any given time. Of the 692,944 people reported missing in 2010, 531,928 were under the age of 18. According to the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), 355,243 women were reported missing in 2010 compared to 337,660 men.[h=3]How many people go missing every day in the USA? - Quora[/h]

The numbers are indeed staggering....

I'll shorten a very long story....

Perhaps part of the above problem. The daughter / sister of a family i knew years back. Just gets in a van, and takes off to Texas with two other girls....and two older men. They are going to Texas to help open a string of restaurants. {They're going to be managers] {Housing will be provided} The one that I knew [knew of] was not heard from for just over a year. Out of nowhere the parents get a call from Texas. It was her, she had escaped her captors , she had been held in northern Mexico, escaped & made it across the border barely dressed, the border guards let her make the call.

The naive mind of the young is IMO what gets them in trouble, so often.

There is much that can be done about the criminal mind & nefarious people...but we need to pay close attention to our young folks . What is in their minds, what may be troubling them, etc. & so-on.

The longer version would include things like , she was a jilted lover, she was at odds with her family, she had no plan for her future, not sure of her desires, etc.

Like I said, long story....and a sad one.

Christhian Bahena Rivera, an illegal immigrant, 24, charged with Mollie's murder. They said he's been in this country 4-7 years, quiet, unassuming type.

He pulled up beside her in his car when she was jogging, she told him she would call the police. He said he blocked out later. She was found dead in a corn field.

This infuriates me, this disgusts me.

Infuriating to say the least. Also the way this predator stalked or pursued her I'd say there's a chance the suspect has done something like this before. Chasing her down with a car? His intentions and effort make his crime much more clear.

RIP, Condolences to friends and family.

Then support more strict immigration restrictions. Will it solve all similar scenarios ? No, but it 's a good start.

What infuriates and disgusts me first and foremost is that he took her life, or any other person who takes another's life (guess I needed to put that in bold print).
I bolded illegal immigrant, meaning he wasn't supposed to be there in the first place. Out of all the people in Iowa and this guy commits the crime. Previous criminal record? No doubt.

We need to ENFORCE the immigration laws already in effect. The accused already committed a crime; he is an ILLEGAL immigrant. Ugh; when will it end.

Not until the folks that live in a rose colored glasses world realize that it is not ...a rose colored glasses world.
And wake up to the fact that we need to protect ourselves & our nation as much as possible from those that would do us harm.

{Ugh;}...I don't get it either, but that is the way they choose to go through life ??

The crime that he committed was horrifying and, of course, inexcusable. Anyone killing a perfectly innocent person for no reason is a monster.

However, his immigration status is a large red herring. How many meaningless crimes are committed every day, by people who were born here, or have gotten here legally? I think throwing his immigration status into this
is just an attempt to politicize something that is in no way political. If this guy committed this murder, that is the relevant information. Period. It really doesn't matter if he got here from Mars, whether he filled out all the proper immigration forms, etc.

It is impossible to discuss this any further without getting "political" about it.

If I were a lady, I wouldn't venture out of the house without having a container of Pepper Spray, or Mace handy. With all the lunatics out there, a woman out in an environment where there aren't several people around, is almost becoming a target for these rapists and killers.

No one act, law, policy, anything will solve all problems. However, in this case if the person was not here (as he wasn't supposed to be) she would be alive.

I do not see why that is "politics". To me it is just plain common sense. An earlier poster said his golf course will not permit women out alone - in doing so, they have surrendered to the predators.

If Jim Jones had not founded a "religious" cult and poisoned his followers with Kool-Aid, 918 people would be alive. 304 of them were children.

If Eric Harris had not been in Columbine, 13 students would be alive.

If Nikolas Cruz had not been in Parkland, FL, 17 students would be alive. (He was American-born.)

If John Wayne Garcy had not been the "Killer Clown" in Chicago, 33 children would not have been buried in his basement.

If Ted Bundy had not been in various states of the U.S. when he was, over 30 victims would be alive.

If Charles Manson had not been here to start his "family," 9 victims would be alive.

And the list goes on.

Stepping back and looking at the big picture, how important is the immigration status of Mollie Tibbett's (suspected) killer?

I have a taser, pepper spray, a body alarm. I carry my keys in my pocket in case I'm where I can set off my car alarm. I went to a safety seminar for seniors and the man lecturing said that most who have criminal intent don't like a lot of noise. I don't know if that is true, but it gave me something to work with.

I was so sad when I read this story. There have been so many stories similar to hers. I've also been saddened by stories of women who have had orders of protection and the person showed up anyway and killed them. One common thread in so many of the stories is women will often make a threat, "I'm going to call the police." The article I read said the man was told by Miss Tibbetts that she was going to call the police. Maybe WE should be more proactive. If we've told someone to leave us alone but they persist, just CALL the police AND set off all the alarms. We don't need to give the other person any kind of warning, we don't need to give second chances. If that should work and he drives away-take a picture of his vehicle, try to get his tag number. Would that have worked in Miss Tibbetts situation? I don't know for sure but maybe we can all learn from this.

Some people like to run at night. I like basketball games (none of my friends like basketball) so I go to games and am alone in parking lots at night. I shouldn't have to impose solitary confinement on myself and stay home 24/7, I don't want to carry around a gun but am willing to do what I need to in order to remain as safe as possible.
