Moon to have its own time zone

Let's see, with all the problems in this country - border problem, inflation, rising crime - Biden's priority is to make it easier for spacecrafts to know what time it is?
 
It’s about time! I was just talking to Gidney and Cloyd about that very problem. I believe that Rocky and Bullwinkle are backing them up.

There will need to be agreement between countries and a centralised co-ordinating body - currently this is done by the International Bureau of Weights and Measures for time on Earth.

At the moment on the International Space Station, Coordinated Universal Time is used because it remains low in orbit. Another element that countries will have to agree on is where the new time frame begins from and to where it extends.

The US wants LTC to be ready by 2026 in time for its manned mission to the Moon.


Artemis-3 will be the first mission to return to the Moon's surface since Apollo 17 in 1972. It is set to land at the lunar south pole, which is thought to hold vast stores of water-ice in craters that never see sunlight.

Locating and directing this mission requires extreme precision down to the nanosecond, errors in navigation which could risk spacecraft entering the wrong orbits.

But Artemis-3 is also one of numerous planned national missions to the Moon as well as private endeavours. If time is not co-ordinated between them it could lead to challenges in sending data and communication between spacecraft, satellites and Earth.

What makes you think it's a "priority"? Come now, do we really need attempts to make political statements? It's very desperate on your part, imo. I don't expect Biden personally cares, but his advisors, and NASA, do.

If a government makes something a priority, they set a close time frame of 2 to 3 years.

When did they want that Moon time done by again?

As someone else posted, there is a political aspect to this globally, so that's what adds a level of "priority" to it. This is not the same as what was intimated in your post, which was the Biden was ignoring other issues and prioritizing this. Do you honestly think the President is taking time out to have anything to do with the topic?
 
Ball should really be in the UN's court. Time on the Moon is a world issue. Time to think outside the narrow parameters of individual nations needs or wants.
