Morality vs obedience?

Live at the edge of civilization for a while
Authorities do not come out there
Everyone has a firearm
Mostly to gain respect and maintain civility
Otherwise, you are meat

In the five years out there, I only know of one instance where a gun was pulled during an altercation....but not aimed

I did fire a few rounds of my 12 gauge into the air one night, when young rowdies from town caused a bit of a disturbance

Fun to see 'em scatter

Oh, and one axe murder
You think this would work in New York City?

When I spoke to kids in schools, I would sometimes compare law enforcement to being a football or basketball official or an umpire. How do you think things would go in any pro game without an official to control the game by enforcing the rules.

Same for law enforcement. Police have to control the different situations they encounter by enforcing the laws. Either way, playing a game without having an official to keep control or not having laws and law enforcement to control situations would become a lose-lose situation. Nothing but chaos and havoc would thrive.

Never....not in any city
Maybe not in any small town

Since living in town, I've come to love the authorities
'Let them handle it', has become my credo
I’m glad you put it that way. I was thinking maybe you were advocating for everyone to carry a gun. And, you’re correct. The way you live up in “no man’s land” would not work even in a small community. I wouldn’t want to live without law enforcement, but I still carry a gun, just in case.

Most people aren’t aware that 2019 was the worse year in the U.S. for mass shootings. The last report that I read showed over 400 mass shootings, not to be confused with mass murders, which there were 30+ of those.

Until we have stronger gun control laws, I don’t expect these numbers to change much.

Psalm 137:9
Blessed shall he be who takes your little ones and dashes them against the rock!

1 Samuel 15:2-3
Thus says the Lord of hosts, ‘I have noted what Amalek did to Israel in opposing them on the way when they came up out of Egypt. Now go and strike Amalek and devote to destruction all that they have. Do not spare them, but kill both man and woman, child and infant, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.’”

A lot more but for example sake those will suffice.

I stand by what I have stated.

Well, you're not getting anywhere near my grandkids, lc! 😁

This is not a humorous comment and downright vicious. It never ceases to amaze me how some people (but not all) continue to bash other beliefs other then their own, lately the Christians have been getting a snootful.... it is just so wrong. 🤕🤕🤕

Here you go again. Your beliefs are strong enough to weather the storms without complaint. "If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also"

Hell, no, Pepper! If anyone slaps MY right cheek, I'll slap THEIR right cheek twice as hard. :devilish: 😠
I was quoting Matthew 5:39 for the "Christian" who constantly takes offense and doesn't understand the teachings she claims to advocate.

I know you were addressing LC, I just felt like needling you. I've never liked that ''turn the other cheek'' crap, what a doormat type of advice!

Living in a remote location you have to take precautions. NO not everyone carrying a gun. I have seen a few results where a few drinks and things go wrong. Living here for 30 years I have 5 times loaded a weapon when threatened. 3 were wild life incidents at least two were sick , the bear was looking for food. I had to remove the sick animals. The bear left after getting as siren blast in his face. Yes I did have my 12 gauge loaded just in case.
One of the other two was when the police had a prisoner escaped. He was running around here for a couple of weeks. Reports were that he was very violent.
Another was a drunk wandering around with a loaded shotgun, a few locals kept others clear till he went to sleep. No one got hurt.
Common sense, being alert works great. I always have dogs, great company and they are part of the family.

Sometimes it's best to use the ignore feature the site offers.

I've never understood the desire to needle someone else's beliefs, unless they are "attempting" to force their beliefs on me. Live and let live or you are no more enlightened than the rest of them.

Personally, I am a strong advocate for: Americans United For Separation of Church and State and send regular contributions.

Religion has a lot to offer society, but they should stay out of my face. The well-established old main stream churches seem to largely have their act together, but I see a lot of questionable behavior from some of the other more radical churches.

Among my neighbors, it is the "bible thumpers" who seem to be able to rationalize mean-spirited or thoughtless selfish behavior. Now my sample size is not large enough for me to present this as a "generalization", but the two "ministers" in our neighborhood set a highly visible example for ornery mean behavior. … and they mistreat their dogs!!

I found that whether one is honest, or dishonest usually depends on the odds of getting caught, and the time of the day.
Another of my home grown tenets is never trust anyone, who earns his living via religion.

I have a very low opinion of anyone who mistreats their dogs!!! 🤬

Not primarily meant to be "humorous," lc, in spite of the smiley face I added at the end of the sentence. Not meant to be vicious, either. It was a statement of fact. I wouldn't let you near my grandkids with a 10 foot pole; you sound dangerous. Look at the reactions your comments have gotten from the broad spectrum of people on this forum.

You use the Bible as your manual on what is right and wrong? Really? So then, you believe in killing people who do not observe the Sabbath properly? And killing anyone whose sexual preferences you disapprove of? And chopping off the hands of convicted thieves? And if you cheat your older brother out of his birthright by tricking your old, blind father, God prefers you anyway and rewards you with tribal leadership? And since there were some bad guys among the humans, God was right to punish all the living creatures by drowning (nearly) all of them?

Sounds to me as if you're using a heavily edited Bible! Take a closer look at your "manual."
