There was this old joke told in the Bay area, in the 70s...

I knew that I had been living in Berkeley too long when I realized that my first thought on seeing a box on the sidewalk with the sign that said "Free Wood" was "I wonder who Wood is, and why the pigs are hassling him?"​

Hah!

When we lived in LA, in the 80s, you'd see a lot of cars that would say "My other car is a Rolls". This would be on the back bumper of a Toyota, or the like. A minor chuckle, at first, but these stickers were all over.

But I can remember one time, driving in West Hollywood, I saw the sign on a bumper, and the car it was on was a Rolls...

Similarly, if you had a long commute--and who didn't?--as you were coming home while driving by residential areas with new apartment construction, you'd very often see a big billboard that said:

If you lived in Cypress Meadows Apartments, you'd be home already!​

Then one day while stuck in a traffic jam, I saw a car with a bumper sticker that said:

If you lived in your car, you'd be home already!​

A guy I worked with wanted to make and sell bumper stickers for tail-gaters, that read " You should have left earlier!".
