Most emotionally upsetting movie you ever watched!

I just remembered one that makes my skin crawl to this day. The Fly with Vincent Price. That scene where the fly is caught in a spider web, crying "help me, help me!" (Shudder)
That terrified me as a child. I've never forgotten it. It still gives me the creeps!

Trust me, no German of my generation will ever need to be reminded. We took on the guilt of our fathers for many years, and the whole era between 1933 - 1945 left an indelible mark on us. To the rest of you I say: "don't ask yourself how could they do that?" but rather "How could we do that?"

We, the Germans of my generation, will never, ever trust humanity to automatically do the right thing again! All it takes is

a) unsettled times and
b) a populist who is a good orator who can whip up the tempers, and speak to the deepest fears of the masses, to bring them to a boiling point! Maybe Jan. 6th might be a good example?

Regrettably that kind neighbour of yours, whom you got along with so great before your regime changed, can now inexplicably betray you for having said something that doesn't agree with present sentiment.

I wish this were a cynical and unrealistic view of humanity, trouble is I have seen the land of Bach, Beethoven, Goethe, Schiller, Nietsche, Kant turn into something unworthy (to say the least) of its history.

And if it can happen there it can happen anywhere, as it already did in Rwanda, Nigeria, the Congo, the Sudan, Yemen, Cambodia, Kurdistan, China, present day India (Hindu vs. Muslim), Iran. etc.!

These people are NOT savages but normally kind and civilised folk, but hatred is a disease that can spread all too easily and infect the "Naked Ape" almost overnight if given the right climate.

Sorry, for getting preachy in a light hearted group but I had to say it!

Not just hatred. FEAR. Fear for oneself was at the core; hatred masked it. Hatred gave the fear energy and purpose.
Amen to both of these comments.

As the daughter of an ETO WWII vet, It's hard to describe my distress at seeing citizens in many countries, my own included, charging with enthusiasm down the very road that precipitated Hitler's rise to absolute power.

Thank you, @Old Salt, for your candid reflections.
As the saying goes, evil prevails when good people do nothing.

The movies I watch anymore are free on DVD from the library, and if it is upsetting part way through, off it goes. In a movie theater, any movie that's not worth the price of admission is upsetting.

Bambi by Disney in mid 1960s. Haven't watched it since.

Recently, "50 first dates" after learning what happened to the woman who's story is based on...

Saving Private Ryan

I as someone that came of age during the Counterculture Era and was in the military during the Viet Nam War, greatly dislike war and conflict though understand its place in human existence. To that end as an adult, don't like experiencing realistic movies of war. I watched the above full movie, knowing it would be painful because it is a real story at a visceral level about what we all should hate. In like manner, it affects how I hate the current Ukraine War that IMO is a proxy war in part provoked by entrenched neoconservatives of both parties of government.

Look, before you got the wrong idea from my previous post, we are all nice people here, myself included (I hope)! So don't be offended by my pessimistic view of humanity at large. Just make sure you always vote for moderate, centre of the political spectrum people to represent you! Here endeth the lesson.

And I, for one, am happy that the moderators will not permit politics in this forum because then we would see mini war after mini war, with friends turning against each other. But I am also grateful that borderline posts like mine weren't censored because we have to be warned! Somehow!!

Forrest Gump had so many emotional moments full of love and friendship (except Jenny's father). The theme was that we each have a destiny to look out for, while at the same point of time, we are all just floating around, accidentally, like on a breeze. The intro of the floating feather finally landing on Forrest as he sat on the park bench was beautiful and touching especially the music with it.

Forrest was an innocent man of action and taught us to love unconditionally, help the ones who need us, never break a promise and be positive. We need more movies like that.

Sound will get louder...

Here's one most of us probably never heard of. I had no idea what I was getting into when I rented it. I thought it was going to be an old style western on the order of Bonanza or something similar. I actually had a terrifying nightmare that night after I watched it, and that was just a few years ago. If you like horror, look this one up if you can find it. I don't think it's well known, and I don't think it was a winner of an Academy Award. But sheesh!

Bone Tomahawk 2016

It's funny how books and movies strike people differently. I though Forrest Gump was incredibly lame and couldn't wait for it to end. Obvs, my opinion was in the minority, because most loved it. 🤷‍♀️

Maybe it's just the story you thought was lame. The acting was superb, don't you think?

Meh... I was so put off by the plot and CGI insertion of Hanks into historical scenes, that I can't say I took great note of the acting.

Being There (Peter Sellers) struck me as a much better movie with a similar theme.
