Most emotionally upsetting movie you ever watched!

I think it was the mini-series "Centennial" which aired in the late 70's... in one of the episodes (set during the dust bowl) a poor mother--unable to cope with the situation anymore--killed her young daughter first, then herself. I had hysterics

"Slumdog Millionaire." After the children were purposely blinded I was so upset, I wanted to leave, but had to stay along with others.

1) A River Wild (1996) Meryl Streep, Kevin Bacon! My wife and I had to take off half way through, accompanied by the scornful sneers of her 90 year old aunt who lived with us.
This movie was filmed about 8 miles downstream from my house on the Kootenai River in Montana. Very small town so Hollywood showing up for a months long filming was probably the biggest thing that ever happened there. I personally didn't find the film disturbing. I was more focused on recognizing familiar parts of the river. Incidentally, for such a supposedly long river trip, most of the scenes were filmed on about a two mile stretch of the actual river, probably less than that.

I think the most disturbing movie for me has been the Exorcist. I read the book first, which wrecked my sleep for at least six months. Then as I was recovering from that, the movie came out, and I went through the after affects all over again. Today, if I re-watch the Exorcist, which I did about a month ago, I have no emotional reaction to it at all.

I'm surprised no one mentioned "The Passion of the Christ".
There are many, many movies I can't watch. "The Passion Of The Christ" is one of them. The "Killing Fields" mentioned below is another. So is any movie associated with Nazi era Concentration Camps! I cannot cope emotionally with seeing others suffer because of the cruelty and sadism of others.

"My Left Foot."
Christy Brown, born with cerebral palsy, learns to paint and write with his only controllable limb - his left foot. The true-life story of Christy Brown who was born paralysed with a severe form of cerebral palsy; his left foot the only appendage over which he had complete control.
Couldn't watch it. Same with "The Theory Of Everything" about Stephen Hawking! I co-suffer too much, even though both men learned to overcome in a most admirable way!

Oh I couldn't watch those either. Far too upsetting.
Life is grim enough.
