so anyone else have a rodent as a passenger in there car/truck?

Not me, but a close friend did. She routinely parked on Riverside Drive, alongside Riverside Park in Manhattan. She was puzzled when she found a bag of chips that was on the seat torn open.
Closer inspection revealed mouse(?) poop on the seat and floor mats.

She would not drive the car after seeing that, so she had it towed to the service department of the dealership. After several days at the dealer, the culprit was caught. However, it was a rat, and not a mouse. The service department did something to "rodent proof" the car. I'm not sure what that was. She no longer lives in NYC.

A chap in my local pub had mice or rats chew through his cooling hoses on his car while it was parked in the pub car park.
Yes, I've heard of mice in cars, chewing through hoses, etc. It's not uncommon. They're destructive little beasts. It's also possible to attract critters if you leave food or drink in your car! acute

I didn't have a mouse, I found a kitten. I was working, calling on my regular customers, and decided to stop in at a new salon. When I came back to my car, I heard frantic meowing. At first, I couldn't figure out where it was coming from, so I stood there for a few minutes, listening. It was coming from my left front wheel well. I figured it was cold and scared and looking for a warm place to hide. Well, I couldn't start the car and drive off, or I would've killed it. So, I called AAA for roadside service. He came and got the kitten out, and there I was in a parking lot off a major highway with this scared little creature. I walked back into the salon to see if it belonged to anyone who was there. Nope. Does anyone want a cute kitten? Nope.

I couldn't just leave it in the parking lot. I was almost done for the day, so I dumped everything out of my purse—it was a big purse—and put the kitten in there. I started the car and the poor little thing was so scared it peed in my purse. 😯 I drove back to work to drop off my orders, told everyone what had happened, and asked if anyone wanted a really really cute kitten. Nope.

So WTF am I gonna do with this kitten? Unfortunately, I couldn't keep it. The apartment complex I was living in at the time had a "no pets" policy. It dawned on me that there was a pet shop in the mall down the street. I called and asked if they would take the kitten. At first, the guy said, you guessed it, no. I pleaded with him. "I know you're an animal lover, or you wouldn't be in the business you're in. I can't just turn it loose. It'll be dead in no time. Please, please, will you take it? Please?" I finally convinced him to take it, but I had to pay him twenty bucks to take it off my hands. Needless to say, I had to throw out the purse. 🥴

Yes, I had one engine wire chewed, AC drain hose pulled out and a box of tissues in passenger seat turned into a cozy nest.
I got one of those things that emits random high pitched noise and attached it under my hood. I cannot hear it, but some of the younger people can and evidently the rodents can. Have not had a problem since then.

Thanks for the reminder. They like to crawl up in nice warm engines when the weather is cold and I need to put fresh batteries in that thing.

Mice, pack rats and squirrels (just a cute furry rat) are always a problem in the country. Had a huge pack rat move into the Camaro one winter. Ate the electrical wires to the fuel injectors, the radiator overflow hose, and some of the ECM wires. Cost me a bunch of money and now, I stick bait bars under the hood of all my vehicles. Of course, that didn't help my house in the Ozarks any. Inspector said it was likely a pack rat that chewed the main entrance wire to the house and subsequently burned it to the ground.:mad:

I have mentioned on here before that I had a terrible mouse problem at my previous home. As for getting in the vehicles, is there any place that they do not feel they can go??? My husband developed a habit of offering to get the groceries for me. It gave him the opportunity (since I thought we were eating low carbs only) to get snacks and sweets at the store and would keep them in the truck to eat in private. The mice found them and made a big mess in the truck. Cured him of that habit! lol

Living on this farm and parking out vehicles outside leaves a perfect home for mouses. :) We use these kind of mouse traps with peanut butter. ( They have to work at getting all of it ).

What a beautiful story! Loved it!

I've never had a mouse in my car, but I did have an Opossum under my hood.
Years ago, I was leaving for a date. I heard "scratching" noises under my car. I looked under my car & saw a huge Opossum staring at me. Then, he stood up & climbed into the engine compartment. I opened the hood to scare him away, but he just stared at me. He didn't move for an hour. I left the hood open & checked later & he was gone.
My GF was really mad that I was late & she didn't believe my story.

I used to work with mice in the lab, many years ago. We grew them and fed them and did experiments on them. They were called "nude" mice because they were white and their immune system was compromised. Anyway, the word got around that our lab was working with mice, but they didn't know what kind.

One day, in the cafeteria of the hospital, I was seated at a long table with colleagues, when a row of people jumped up a few tables down from me and people were shouting.

Then another row of people jumped up. It was like a wave of people jumping up. Someone yelled "A mouse" and everyone sort of scattered.

Next thing you know, people were knocking on my door to see if we had lost a "mouse." I grinned and explained to them that the kind of mouse we had was not gray or even a regular mouse.

Fast forward a few years ago.

We did get a mouse in our house. Having worked with mice, I knew how to grab them simultaneously by the tail and neck so they couldn't turn around to bite you. It was sort of like the flick of a wrist action. But when I saw this mouse, so healthy and scared, I felt sorry for it. My husband couldn't understand why I was feeling this way. Instead, I trapped it in a bucket and took it outside and let it go.

I had worked too long with mice to be afraid of them. If anything, they had become sort of pets over the years. Anyway, if it were a spider, I would shudder. Yuck!

In my 30's, I worked at an aerospace plant for 3 years. While I was printing documents, I saw a mouse run across the floor & hide under a computer processing unit. I started keeping granola bars in my desk for him. My supervisor found out & asked me why I was feeding him.
I said, "Well, if he's going to stay here, he might as well eat."
After a week, he disappeared. I think they set a trap for him after I went home.

In rural areas (and other areas) they can cause a lot of damage in cars. I used to tie strips of fabric under the hood, and sprinkle essential oils on the fabric. Peppermint to deter mice, balsam fir (aka fir balsam) to discourage rats.

I haven't seen a single mouse or rat where I live now. Probably too cold.
