My son in law works in road construction and repair. For the past few months,he and his crew have been working on the Northern California coast highway repairing a slide. It`s an hour away from home so he stays there during the week and comes home weekends. So on Friday night he was on his way home when he got a frantic call from one of his men-Mudslide!!Thankfully,all were accounted for but guardrail and some equipment was was washed into the river below. We have just had too much rain and the hills can`t hold any more water. The first few pics below are before and after. One of the pics you can see the American flag in the upper right corner. Son in law displays it on every one of his projects. Hope it survived the slide.

Wow, that is unbelievable. I'm sure you tell him often but please tell him to stay safe.

Very often. My other son in law and eldest grandson are both electrical linemen. Next in line grandson does solar panel installations on rooftops. Fell off once last year when the sup said it was safe for them to work-but the roof was frosty. He didn`t get hurt-I guess his football days helped him. So yeah,I worry about them all all the time.

Looks like hell or highwater there in California mudslides can be deadly. Hope your son in law is careful and stays safe.

First I hope your son in law will be safe and all that work with him. My stepfather was foreman for the county road department in California. When we had some of those severe coastal storms, we wouldn't see him for days. Trees down, slides, snow in the mountains.

I still can't help but think we can't have enough rain and water. Roads cutting into the mountains partly cause slides. I wonder if it is impossible to reinforce them better.

You know exactly what it`s like then. My other son in law,the lineman for PG&E,lives here in Lakeport like us and was called out again today to Eureka. Not even to work,at this point. Just to standby in case they are needed this week. Both my daughters have birthdays this week,so a big birthday dinner is planned for Wednesday night, but it looks like both their husbands might very well miss it. Thinking maybe we should reschedule it. My eldest grandson,on the other hand, just moved from Fresno to Vacaville today,so at least he`ll be closer for a bit.

That looks so scary. Glad your son-in-law and his coworkers were not injured. An Internet friend from another chat board lives in Cambria on the Pacific coast. She reports that trees have fallen on houses and the beaches are covered with water. Roads have broken apart and it is dicey driving around there.
