I just watched a special about the group, in it, it was said that they were more popular in Australia than were the Beatles .

Is that true ?

I never was a Beatles fan, period. Even though they were HUGE here in the U.S.

In those years, and still today, I'm not much on "pop" music. The exceptions were ABBA & CCR. I admit my first attraction to ABBA was the two pretty girls, but I also liked their different sound.

Just curious............

I do think this belongs in the Entertainment section of the forum. I like them a lot. I especially like Dancing Queen!

We have a friend who is from Denmark and her parents, who are our age,are huge ABBA fans. I know they love the Beatles as well, but not like they love ABBA.

Dancing Queen is good, but my ABBA favorite is "FERNANDO"!

That song rates right up there with the everlasting old standards from George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, Richard Rodgers, and Jerome Kern!

It's melodically beautiful and emotional as well.

I was never keen on the Beatles... although as I got older I realised how good some of their music was...but ABBA were fabulous...and they still continue now..especially the men who write some wonderful music for big thetre shows...

I love Fernando..and the winner takes it all, as said by Jim and Hal... but my favourite is..

This one is all the more poignant , because as they released this song Agnetha and Bjorn were splitting up....

Saw previews for a new movie coming out soon. Mama Mia,based on the stage play obviously. Can`t remember who all is in it but I know Cher is,but maybe just a cameo.

I saw the stage show Mama Mia.the year it came out...1999 in The Prince Edward theatre London... we were lucky to get tickets for it.. but we were right up in the Gods!!

It is sad when we see our entertainers do as we do..........................get old! Somehow we expect them to be ageless.
