My Bad and cell phone.......rant.

People using the term My Bad as opposed to excuse me or I'm sorry etc. rubs me raw as does people that are so attached to their cell / I- phones that they can't be two feet from away from it or even go to the bathroom and take care of their business without playing on it.......I actually once saw a fella standing at a urinal and using his cell phone one handed.

Because of playing on his cell phone and not paying attention to where he was going I had a thirties something fella bump into me yesterday going at a pretty good clip at the hardware store and as opposed to just saying I'm sorry or excuse me he said my bad and I started burning inside......I said, "put that dam phone in your pocket and start paying attention to what you're doing". He glared and I glared back then he turned and walked away.

Phew, rant over and I feel all better now. :)
 
Awww poor guy, he bumped into you and apologised, and took the blame for it, and you ranted at him for the way he apologised..you'll be getting older people a bad name :(..but I understand your frustration with the phones..I'm sick of people not looking where they're going due to being glued to facebook..or twitter...

Yesterday at the salon I was told I could have a reduction in my next hair cut if I followed them on Instagram.. what ?.. I politely turned down their offer.. but I'm astonished at how addicted people seem to be to these things..

I used to rant about those idiots, who are always on their phones. But, now, I'm one of them. At the dentist's, there was a kid about three, who was sitting there using a phone. He wasn't just watching something mom set up for him, his tiny little fingers were working the phone. And there's no way that kid was old enough to read- how was he doing that? Maybe the kid's tiny little fingers are the only fingers that can work those crummy microscopic keypads???
BTW about 60% of the human race has access to a cell phone.

It's possible that he was using his cell phone to look at a shopping list or something else related to what he was doing. I dunno. That's just the life in the 21st century.
 
Ike have a look at The Weekly Gripe. Here's the first paragraph, something that you might just empathise with.

"Whenever I look at this forum, and others, I am shocked at the way people mangle the English language. I find that many non-native English speakers in UK, particularly the Polish, speak and write English to a far higher standard than native speakers."

Yeah, it does come across to me as not much of an apology
'So sue me' is another

A few years back, when living at the cabin, we had this PO Box
My pension check would come to that box (no auto deposit available)
I got notified by USPS it arrived.
Drove the 25 miles to the post office
It wasn't in my box
They searched all the boxes on that wall
Found it in someone else's box

The lady that sorted the mail just shrugged her shoulders and said 'my bad'
Like 'shit happens'

I came unglued

The postmaster came rushing out to the truck and actually apologized

Took me awhile to cool off.......my bad
 
A young teenager, with his mother, at the grocery store the other day ran into me with the cart he was pushing and said, "My bad." At least he acknowledged his mistake :).

We're in the process of doing some remodeling and have had to deal with a lot of calls from contractors, etc. I tell them to text me because I don't carry my phone around with me and I don't always hear the phone. I don't understand the obsession's with these phones that everyone has. I have a smart phone because I need it but I don't play on it all day.....or any day, come to think about it. I'm just old-school and think a phone is for communication only.

I agree with a few others here "my bad" in not an apology ...

I often find those and there are a lot of people of all ages who do this .......... come UNGLUED if the situation was reversed ......and would most likely NOT accept "my bad" as an apology......


Phone addiction is a major problem ..... and frankly i see no reason for it i look at phone occasionally but not obsessed with it and can leave in the other room most of the day......

I love those videos and there are many of people who fall into fountains or other obstacles because they are glued to phone......
I do not wish injury on any just a nice ironically...... Wake up CALL..
 
I posted about this a couple of years ago:
I was waiting to make a right turn. A young guy was standing at the curb texting, waiting for the "Walk" sign to cross. I didn't want to make the turn because previously, I've had pedestrians on their phone start to cross on the "Don't Walk" when my light is green.
When the "Walk" signal came on, he didn't notice it because he was still looking at his phone. I waited a few more seconds, then started to make my turn. He looked up & quickly jumped off the curb to cross, then gave ME a dirty look when I almost hit him.

Good for you! I feel the same. It really pisses me off when they get in their car and have trouble pulling out because they can't turn because they only have ONE HAND because too busy with other hand using a phone. PUT THE DAMNED PHONE DOWN until out of parking lot! It's NOT that important!
 
My Grandchildren are like that, they even take their phones with them when they go to the bathroom.

However, when they come to stay with me, there are rules that they have begrudgingly accepted, which are:

No phones at the dinner table.
Internet is limited to 3 hours a day, the rest of the time is spent playing outside.
After Dinner, we all play a board game.
When going out with me, all phones are placed in the basket in the hallway.

Amazingly enough, they still like coming here.

True because they've just learned the language as we did as small children... they've not lived here long enough or mixed with locals long enough to pick up the local dialect or slang...
