My damn printer is out of ink.

My HP printer is out of ink. Of course now, there is no problem. I bought ONE set of cartridges on line line. I got my "new" printer some time when Bush was President. It's so old that HP doesn't carry my model anymore. The problem is when this ONE set of cartridges are used up, nobody will have made their replacements in years. I'll be stuck with a good printer and no way to print. So you are telling me, "dumbbell , buy more cartridges". BUT, AHA, if I buy TWO sets of cartridges, as soon as they come in the mail, the printer will immediately freeze up and never print again. Unfortunately, this has happened to me before. I bought two 56 & 57s. The printer froze up and died. Got a new printer. Guess what happened when my two new 45s came in the mail. AHH, life.

Some places will refill your old cartridges with ink, but I don't know how good those refills really are or how long they last. Since we rarely use our printer, we go with the new cartridges, still available in the local stores as the printer is not that old. That's kinds like Murphy's Law fuzzybuddy, what can go wrong will go wrong.
