My first record..

The VERY first record I ever bought was when I was on a day-trip to Gt Yarmouth, organised by the foster home I was in at the time.
It was an LP - ok,nothing strange about that - of George Formby songs. [ok,it just got weird-because I was 13]
All the other kids were buying several singles,or LP's of The Stones,etc...but I chose G. Formby Esq...and never heard the last of it.
42 years later, aged 64,I STILL get the p*ss taken by the two people in that home with me,who were there on the outing.
BUT...I can sing those songs word-perfectly as I sit on my beach playing my Ukelele, today. [NOT as well as George, but I try]

The first SINGLE I ever bought, was 'Hold your head up',by Argent. I came home from my 1st trip as a deck-boy in the Merchant Navy & it just 'hit home']
I still have it [AND the George Formby LP!] and it's message is as relevant today as it was then.

Here is one Elpus.

Another by a band I liked at the early teens, I know all the words to this one always liked it.

My first record purchase would have been around 1949 or 50, I barely remember yesterday so good luck on my being able to answer the question.

Shortly before my 12th birthday my parents took me to an E. J. Korvette store in the Detroit area (Anybody remember Korvettes?). They bought me a portable stereo record player as a birthday gift and let me choose three LPs from the discount bin. They were by Ray Charles, Della Reese, and Charlie Parker. I might still have one or two of those around.

I remember hearing about EJ Korvettes, but they didn't have a store close to my city in CT, but I think there were 3 in surrounding towns.

I was very lucky growing up. My Dad's friends job was loading Juke Boxes and he always gave my Dad a load of records.I was only about 5yrs old when he started asking me what I would want. Of course years later when ever Elvis had a new song he would stop over and give it to me right away.

I had so many I can't remember what the first one was.

I made the mistake of giving them to my daughter thinking she would keep them.

The ones I remember are..

Hey Jude, I'm leavin on a jet plane, Midnight train to Georgia.
