My Grandfather and another con.

Whenever I see the "The Rockford Files", I see my grandfather. The thing about my grandfather was that you never saw the con coming. It was the 50s and vacations were for resting, not like vacation time today. It was a Friday evening and my dad started his weeks vacation. My grandfather happened to stop by, and it was so nice out why not go out for a walk. They happened to walk by this house, when my grandfather asked if he could just say a word to this lady. My dad stayed on the sidewalk and watched my grandfather knock on the door. A woman opened the door and my grandfather said, " I told you I would find you an expert roofer. Well, there he is." He pointed at my dad. "We''ll start Monday morning at 8". My dad was speechless, he had never been on a roof in his life. But by Monday, my grandfather convinced my dad that they could be great roofers. My dad made a few bucks, and learned something about roofing.

Yup. The "mark" was very happy. She was a widow. My granddad always wore these over sized bib overalls when he was doing a job. I don't know why he wore them so big. When he was on the ladder carrying up those bundles, the bundles would rub against his chest and unclip the bib clips and his overalls would fall down. She was always at the window watching him. He'd swear at her in French. He was French Canadian, she wasn't. She didn't get much of a thrill, he always wore white long johns-even in summer.
