My hair is getting drier and drier

What leave-in conditioner do you use?
Sorry, didn't see this yesterday.

It is not specifically leave-in. It is Loreal elvive. If you comb it through the ends while still wet, then towel dry your hair, it seems to be about right. It has helped a lot.

Have you tried baby shampoo ? It is gentle and most likely won't be harsh on your hair?? My husband is allergic to everything you wash your hair with and he uses baby shampoo.

The older I get, it seems the drier my hair is getting. It's sort of long, and when I pull it into a pony tail and hold it out straight, my hair doesn't even bend the last few inches. It just sticks straight out like a handful of straw. I've tried so many different shampoos, conditioners, oils, and "deep treatment" products, and nothing works. Has anyone tried anything that actually works? I'd be most appreciative of any suggestions.
A monthly treatment with warm coconut oil to leave on for about half an hour, then rinse off and wash your hair as normal.

I regularly use Garnier Honey Shampoo and Conditioner as well as their Coconut and Macadamia too. Round July 2022, all the burnt and damaged hair fell off (after Pandemic hair dyes and bleaches tryout). Nourished my new hair as above.

Soft hair back to my original colour plus my natural baby curls.

Okay, that's one shampoo I haven't tried! :giggle:
If you use baby shampoo still use a good conditioner, years back I used a conditioner I bought at Sally's beauty supply store and it was the best stuff, they quit making it. You may try there if you have one you may find something reg stores don't carry.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I'll start trying them, one at a time and see what works best for my hair. Hope springs eternal! :)

No, your hair isn't getting tired. 🌹

The sebaceous Glands attached to your hair follicles under your scalp are not producing enough sebum (oil) anymore. Putting oils on your hair shafts can temporarily replace it. (Maybe stop the hairspray which contains alcohol)?

It all happens on the inside.

Your hair can only be as healthy as your scalp.

I only shampoo my hair once a week, but rinse it every morning. (Bed head.) While it's still wet I put a small amount (nickel sized) bit of leave in conditioner in my hand, then rub my hands together and gently work that into my hair - mostly the ends.

L'oreal Elvive is inexpensive and works pretty well. I prefer Caviar Cream but it's 3X - 5X the price (I sometimes score a great deal on Ebay) so I mostly use the Loreal. No hairspray for me.

Have you thought about a shorter cut?

My sister is 48 and her hair recently got super thin and dry, so she bought a wig. When she put it on a few days ago, she started crying. I heard her, and went to check on her.

She said she tried various ways to make the wig look natural, but none of them worked. She was crying really hard, so I asked her to let me cut her hair.

I have a lot of practice because I always cut my kids hair when they were kids, and my own, when I had some.

I gave her a very Tinkerbell-style pixie cut....real short all around but longer on top and longest in front. It looks cute as hell, seriously, and she looks a lot younger, too.

She loves it, her boyfriend loves it, her co-workers love it, and she's even been asked where she got it "done."

And the thing is, her hair looks a lot healthier, and even thicker. You can't tell it's thinning at all.

I wash my hair 2-3 times a week. For me, that seems sufficient. I can't let it go any longer due to the fact I use hairspray and it gets ugly and weighed down.
I was going to suggest a clarifying shampoo once a week.
I went a spell of dry frizzy hair. My hair is fine. Too much product makes your hair seem dry but it can be a build up.
The hair stylist told me this years ago. I still use the clarifying if it seems to be getting dry.
It takes a while to bring it back to normal.

I'm not an expert but I'm just now looking into this.

If you have Hard Water that could be the culprit of various hair issues like dullness, thinning, dryness, etc....
The Pros and Cons of Hard and Soft Water

You can get a soft water filter for your showerhead if you don't want a whole-house system
There are a ton of products but it's really complicated as to which one to use.

I have a new house (have lived here since February2023) with hard water and I'm already finding scale build-up that I can see around the base of the faucets and spots on the glass shower doors that doesn't all come off with a squeegee. I have to use white vinegar and scrub hard to keep it looking like new. The white scaling will eventually ruin my hot water heater with corrosion.

The chlorine in your water and minerals in the hard water will affect your hair and skin. You'll need either a water softener or a clarifying shampoo or chelating shampoo but I'm still researching

This will probly sound gross, but stop washing your hair.

Don't shampoo it, don't condition it, don't put anything on it.

Other than combing it and tying it back or whatever, just leave it alone, and in 3 to 6 months it will be way softer and shinier, it will have more body and all that.

It won't get younger....it'll still be older hair...but you really should try just leaving it alone. Shampoo is actually damaging. Let it revive.

A good one is the product, Ultra Swim, that swimmers use. A hairdresser friend told me about it. I must try it again.

I have a couple of suggestions. If you're not using collagen peptides, give it a try. I buy Anthony's for around $22 on Amazon, I've had good results with my hair and nails

Second thing, might try doing deep moisturizing treatments. Back a few years ago when I bleached my hair, I used this product twice a week

I would dampen my hair with cool water, apply the masque and wrap my head in saran wrap and put on a bonnet to hold the heat in. Made my hair much softer.
