My head is becoming a very expensive part of me.

Since we aren't going anywhere for the summer I decided to get some issues taken care of.
I went to the eye doctor for a check up. The last was in 2014. Believe it or not my eyes haven't changed but I am getting plain reading glasses because I do a lot of close up work.
I have no insurance for that. My daughter suggested I get them online. I had my doubts but she and her husband are very happy with theirs so I thought I'd give it a try.
That didn't go well. It seems the online glass place wants the pupil distance and there lies the problem. The eye doctor says she doesn't do that and of course the eye glass place won't give it to me because they want me to buy their glasses.
Next time I will bring my daughter because she could get blood out of a stone. lol

Next came the audiologist. Had the hearing test and she jacked up my aids but of course she put the pressure on for new ones. I hope my old ones hang in there. I have no insurance for them either.
Finally I went to the dermatologist for sore and raw spots I had on my forehead and on my ear.
I'm not doing this for looks. I'm beyond that. I just don't want these areas to turn into skin cancer. She blasted them with what looked like a blow torch and I was on my way.
Insurance will pay for that after my hefty deductible.

I have no idea what the rest of my body is doing but I feel fine and I will leave it at that.
If I should die they can all comment on what a wonderful new head she had.

I need to get glasses soon but I don't know if I can get bifocals through Zenni. I doubt the eye doctor will give me the prescription info unless I tell him I need it for medical records and for work maybe? Sometimes white lies work to a person's advantage when it's important. I don't like doing it but I don't like being screwed out of money unnecessarily either.

Here in the Uk your optician must give you your prescription on request.. ..the beauty of that is that you can then take the prescription to any specs store.. or even online.. and use it to your advantage where specs are cheaper.. or better choice of frames for example

Some places don't like that. Like with what Ruth is going through. Usually because their glasses are so expensive.

@Ruth n Jersey does your Walmart have an eye clinic? You might be able to get an exam there and get the script from them. And maybe cheaper glasses.

@MarciKS our Walmart does have an eye clinic but once I got my glasses from BJs and I couldn't see out of them. Luckily they took them back. After that I shied away from stores like that.
Well the dirty deed is done for now and hopefully for a few years to come.
I must say the service I do get from the privately owned opticians is outstanding.
They tighten them. Change the little tabs by the nose when needed and if you need the glasses the next day in an emergency they will have them ready. They also got the paint off that I had sprayed on the lenses.
See? I'm making myself feel better about spending the big bucks .lol

They have to Marci and Ruth... maybe they don't want to, but they must. Don't let them get away with it. You paid or that exam, the results belong to you!

Yes, our eye doctor gives a patient a copy of their exam, if they request it. I've heard a couple of people freely tell the staff they want a copy so they can get a pair of cheap "backup" glasses at Walmart, or online.

Oh, yeah - your head is expensive. 😁
You'll feel better when you think about my head:
$650.00 for new glasses every 2-3 years.
$70,000.00 for 30 root canals & 30 crowns + replacements (over the past few years).

The United States Federal Trade Commission enforces the Eyeglass Rule and Contact Lens Rule, which gives you the right to get a prescription from your eye doctor - whether you ask for it or not - at no extra charge.

I've never had a problem getting a copy of my eye prescription. All I had to do was ask - no story or machinations required.
