better to fill up a landfill than run out of water. I suppose it's which area of conservation that interest you most. Like everywhere else we have two trash cans-one to recycle plastic.
Just the two of us & we use ceramic plates, cups, saucers & bowls. Glass for drinking and a variety of glass bowls for mixing different food needs. Use dishwasher once a day to keep from wasting water. Live in the city so waste water is collected and reused. Don't use much in the way of paper or plastic. What little we do use is recycled.
Processing paper uses a lot of water, and wood pulp. Really try to minamise the use of plastic.
Reason
When plastics are sent to landfills and incinerators they don’t just disappear. The debris escapes onto roadways and the emissions are sent into the air we breathe. According to Keep America Beautiful, toxic pollution from plastics contributes over 19% of roadside waste. That’s like throwing 1,300 pieces of plastic trash on to every mile of roadway in the U.S.

For everyday it's Corelle plates and bowls, stainless flatware, Corning drinking glasses ... and like Geezerette, we use ceramic souvenir mugs for tea and coffee.
Run the dishwasher when it gets full, but wash everything else daily. Water is a great renewable resource . . .except in the desert.
Hahaha. Got this in my email. Too funny not to pass on…
Larry went to visit his 86 year old grandfather in a very rural area. After spending a great evening chatting the night away, Larry’s grandfather prepared breakfast of bacon and eggs. Larry noticed a film like substance on his place, and questioned his grandfather asking, “Are these plates clean?”
His grandfather replied, “They’re as clean as cold water can get em. Just you go ahead and finish your meal”.
For lunch the old man made hamburgers. Again, Larry was concerned about the plates as it appeared to have tiny specks around the edge that looked like dried egg and asked, “Are you sure these plates are clean?”
Without looking up the old man said, “I told you before, those dishes are as clean as cold water can get them. Now don’t you worry, I don’t want to hear another word about it”.
Later that afternoon, as he was leaving, his grandfather’s dog started to growl, and wouldn’t let him pass. Larry yelled and said, “Grandfather, your dog won’t let me get to my car”.
Without diverting his attention from the football game he was watching on TV, the old man shouted, ‘COLDWATER, GO LAY DOWN NOW, YEH HERE ME!!!”
I use my best china everyday, that was for special occasions in the past .... No reason to 'save' them as my days get shorter.
