My Plumbing Finally Repaired After The Freeze Last Month

I got on the list for three different plumbing companies and as I guessed the lesser known company came to my rescue yesterday. New kitchen sink faucet and both bath tub faucets and water line inspection to the fridge ice maker. They had to rip out one half of one wall in a walk-in closet to get at the tub plumbing. Cost=$2,450. Insurance payed for nothing because the clogging occurred at the valves to the faucets. I will replace the drywall. It was great to take a hot shower with full pressure! Luckily for me I asked the plumber why all the other units in my building pipes burst in the ceilings while mine did not. He said because the pressure was reduced on mine due to the leaking at the other units. 125 people died in the freeze because of the deliberate power blackout by ERCOT.

That’s a relief to have your repairs done. Have any of your neighbours lucked out and how much did they have to spend?

Sorry to hear of the folks who died.

Glad to hear that things are returning to normal.

Sounds like now is the time to install an access panel in the closet for the tub plumbing.

That would work better but now that I know the location of both the front and rear shower plumbing is I will simply remove the drywall myself and put it back when done. I was not happy that the plumbers did not bother to search for the nails with a stud finder. Instead, they just ripped it up in pieces The panel would have to be nearly the width of the entire wall because the fixtures are side by side. I'm just glad it is over.

fmdog44, I've had problems with busted pipes in cold weather. I pray you never see another plumber the rest of your life, I don't even want to see one in heaven.
My plumber and a talk show host Tom Tynan said to drain all pipes by opening all faucets then shutting the supply off. For the horizontal pipes it is best to drain them early before the temperature drops. Most here where I live simply partially opened on faucet as we do when the temp hits 32 F to keep the water moving. That did not work for this super freeze.

Actually I lucked out because my pipes did not burst. My next door neighbor's unit was remodeled form top to bottom taking seven weeks to do it. He had not yet moved in when the pipes in his unit burst so his homecoming was a water soaked home and bled water on to the unit below.
